She shouldn't be here, damn it.
“Hey, guys,” she chirped, hugging David, then... Adrian.
First, I looked at her, then at Adrian, speechless.
Adrian DeLoughrey had just hugged someone?
Maybe they had met in hell, which didn't explain how Miles knew her.
Olivia turned to me and her condescending smile made the last of my blood freeze in place.
That little bitch was ready to destroy me, and she was capable of doing just that if she pushed the right buttons.
Had I really thought Tristan was my biggest insecurity? Because it was this vicious beast that could tear me to pieces. With mere words.
Olivia McConnell was the one who knew more about the ugly part of my past than Bay.
“Shouldn't you be in Sacramento?”
She eyed me up and down as if I were some kind of wild animal that had strayed into civilization.
I tried hard not to let her unsettle me.
The old Larissa would have jumped at her throat right now. The new Larissa knew how to control herself. She had to if she didn't want to completely ruin her new start in Blairville.
“And you burning in hell?” I forced the words out.
She looked me in the face again, her expression the same as before, only a little more disdainful.
“Very charming, just like back then.”
A dirty grin spread across her lips.
“It's a shame that such noble blood flows through such...” Her gaze wandered down my body again. “...dirty veins.”
I wanted nothing more than to try out my new supernatural strength on her cheekbones, strangle her snake-like neck, and make my words from a few minutes ago come true. But instead, I kept my composure and returned her fake smile.
“I really hope you aren’t like you were back then.”
Of course, I knew she had not walked the path of enlightenment.
If Olivia's personality ever turned around, it would only be three-hundred and sixty degrees.
She laughed, and it sounded as snide as no one else could make it sound.
“You shouldn't hope for anything you already know the answer to, Larissa.”
Miles appeared at the top of the stairs, eyeing us, two monstrous dark red suitcases in his hands.
“You two know each other?”
He didn't seem to have noticed the unpleasant conversation.
“Of course we do,” Olivia chirped again. “We went to school together for twelve years, didn't we, Larissa?”
She glared at me with hostility, but not so that Miles could see, which didn't match her sweet voice at all.
Her attitude made me boil, and the worst part was that Miles didn't even notice.
