He drops two pills into my hand before handing me the bottle with the cap already removed. I pop the medicine in my mouth and take a drink of the water before giving it back to him. He leaves it on the bedside table before crawling back into bed and gently moving me into his arms. His fingers begin massaging the base of my skull and I melt into him, letting out a sigh.
“Talk to me, baby. What do you remember?”
I turn my focus back to last night. Morgan got into town…
“Morgan,” I gasp, trying to pull out of his hold but my body is not fucking cooperating with me. His arms immediately wrap around me and bring me back down.
“Shh,” he says. “She’s okay. She’s sleeping in one of the guest rooms.”
I sigh. “Okay. Good.”
“Now tell me what you remember.”
“Morgan got here in the afternoon,” I say, starting to recount my day yesterday. “Then, you called and asked if we wanted to go out with you and your friends… Club Voodoo… We were dancing.”
I shake my head as things start coming back to me.
But it doesn’t make any goddamn sense.
Just flashes and fragments of memories.
“The music… it was too loud… the lights got too bright… you were holding me… we kissed.” My brows furrow and I huff out a breath. “How much did I drink last night, Dalton?”
“Enough,” he grits out as he starts working his fingers through my hair, massaging my scalp and I moan as I lay my head on his lap and close my eyes. “What else do you remember?”
Everything is a mess.
I can’t piece together the sequence of events but I remember Dalton and I standing at the bar, him gripping the back of my thighs as we talked.
What we were talking about, though, is a complete mystery to me.
I remember us dancing.
I remember his smile and the way he looked at me.
I remember…
“Did I go to the bathroom?” I ask, opening my eyes and turning so I can look up at him. His jaw is tight and his brows are drawn together as he nods.
“You did.”
“I missed the sink,” I tell him and he cocks his head to the side, studying me.
“What?”
I shake my head. “In the bathroom… I remember missing the sink…or there were two sinks….no, I was seeing double, I think.”
“Anything else?” he asks. His voice is soft but when I look up at him again, he looks like he’s two seconds away from exploding. I reach up and place my hand on his cheek.
“What is it? Why are you so upset?”
He shakes his head. “Just worried about you, baby.”
“I mean, I feel like death warmed over but look,” I say, patting my hands over my body gently. “I’m here. I’m okay.”
“If I hadn’t gotten to you in time…” he whispers, the raw ache in his voice piercing me through the chest. I force myself to sit up but it takes a moment with how tired and heavy I feel. When I’m seated next to him, I lean in and press my lips to his.
A memory flashes through my mind.
