This has got to be the worst hangover of my life.
Dalton moves again and then his hand is against my cheek, his thumb brushing across my skin and I let out a little hum as I lean into his touch.
“Good morning, gorgeous,” he whispers, his voice rough with sleep and I force my eyes to open. It turns into more of a squint as I look up at him, the light still attacking my vision and pounding head. His dark hair is going in every direction but his eyes are alert, watching me carefully.
“Hi.”
His brows furrow as he studies me but he’s fighting back a smile. “How are you feeling?”
“Like ass,” I tell him, letting out a sigh and closing my eyes again.
“Head hurting?”
I nod and it sends a wave of agony through my skull. “Yes.”
“Can you sit up?” he asks. “I have some pain killers and water for you on the bedside table.”
Oh.
Yes.
Then, my stomach rolls again.
“I’ll try but I may puke.”
His arm slips under my back and he gently lifts me into a sitting position, taking all the pressure off of me to move my body.
“Let’s give it a shot,” he says once he has my back pressed up against what I think is a headboard. “I want to try and knock the headache down and get some fluids in you.”
I give him a tiny nod, covering my eyes with my hand. “Can we do something about the sun?”
“On it, baby,” he whispers, pressing his lips to my forehead before his weight leaves the bed. Darkness fills the room and I open my eyes slowly.
Better.
Much better.
“Where are we?”
He looks over at me from the bedside table where he’s grabbing medicine and a bottle of water. “My room at the clubhouse.”
“Your room?” I ask and he nods.
“Yeah.” He looks around the space. It’s pretty plain - dark gray walls, a bed, a desk, a closet and an attached bath I can see through the open doorway in front of me. “I’m building a house out on the property but until it’s done, I live here.”
“How…” My brows furrow as I look up at him. “How did I get here?”
He rakes his hand through his hair with a sigh. “What do you remember?”
My head jerks back at his words, pain ricocheting through me.
What do I remember?
Nothing.
My mind is painfully blank.
“Here,” he says, interrupting my train of thought. “Take these first.”
