No.
I can’t fucking stand still right now.
My gaze darts to the bathroom door as I begin pacing back and forth in front of the hallway.
Fuck.
Maybe I should have gone with her.
I rake a hand through my hair and continue my pacing, my brain screaming at me to march down that hallway and barge into the bathroom.
Goddamn it.
I need to hit something.
This whole fucking thing feels wrong.
Lennon only had the one drink and unless the thing was ninety percent alcohol, I can’t imagine it was enough to get her this fucked up.
She said it had been a while though so maybe?
I don’t fucking know.
Both hands comb through my hair now and I give it a hard tug, pain prickling my scalp.
Whatever.
It’s something else to focus on besides the fact that I’m standing out here while my girl is alone in that goddamn bathroom.
I want to go to her.
My instincts scream at me, thrashing under my skin, to get to her.
So why the fuck am I still standing here?
Turning towards the hallway, I’m moving before I even realize that I made the decision and there is no stopping it now. I barge into the bathroom and my vision narrows to Lennon, curled up in a ball on the floor across from me.
“Baby?” I whisper, rushing over to her and dropping to my knees hard. I reach out and gently touch her arm and she jumps, letting out a yelp.
“Dal...ton?”
I nod, brushing my hand over her hair, over her cheek and her shoulders. “I’m here, baby. What happened?”
“I d-don’t…don’t know.”
Tears drip from her eyes and when she meets my gaze, the fear shining back at me punches me in the fucking gut. It’s stronger than any hit I’ve ever taken in the ring.
“S-some…thing is…wrong,” she says, releasing a heavy sigh like it’s taking a considerable amount of effort on her part just to get each word out. I nod.
“I know, baby,” I tell her. “I’m going to get you out of here. I’ve got you.”
I stand then reach down and scoop her up off the floor, cradling her in my arms. She lays her head on my shoulder and sighs, melting in to me.
“Safe…with…you,” she whispers and an iron fist squeezes my heart as I nod and press my lips to her forehead.
“Yeah, baby. You’re always safe with me.”
When she doesn’t answer me, I pull back to look at her face.
