“Are you okay?”
She turns to look at me but her eyes won’t focus and my heart jumps into my throat.
“Lennon?”
She nods, slowly. “Yeah… I think… the drink just hit me kind of…hard. It’s been a…while…since I had…alcohol.”
I don’t like this.
“What do you need?” I ask, mentally cataloguing her face, looking for a fucking threat that isn’t there.
I don’t ever want her to drink again if this is the result.
She shakes her head. “I’m…good. Juuust gonna go to the…bathroom…and…splash some water o-on my…face.”
“Let’s go,” I tell her, wrapping my arm around her back and gripping her waist to keep her firm against my side as I begin moving us through the crowd.
“Dalton,” she says, letting out a little huff. “I can…go to the…bathroom…by my…myself.”
Fat fucking chance.
“And I can take you,” I fire back with a shrug.
“Baby,” she slurs, her feet dragging across the floor like she’s having trouble lifting them up.
For fuck sake.
How strong was that pour?
“You…can’t go in the…bathroom… with me.”
Fuck.
She’s right.
If I march into the bathroom with her, that’s the quickest way to get the cops called. But what the fuck else am I supposed to do? Just let her go on her own?
Fuck.
Fuck.
Fuck.
“Fine,” I mutter just as we reach the hallway that leads to the bathrooms, hating every single fucking second of this. “I’ll wait right here for you to get back. But if you take too long, I’m coming in after you.”
She giggles. “Deal. I’ll be…right back.”
I release her and she immediately stumbles into the wall. My hand shoots out to steady her but she places one hand against the wall and raises the other to reassure me.
“I’m good.”
Like shit she’s good.
I fucking hate this.
I’m never letting her fucking drink again.
She stumbles her way down the hallway, keeping her hand on the wall the entire way and once she disappears into the bathroom, I turn to scan the club.
