I blink up at the ceiling and the white square tiles bleed together as I pull in another breath.
Fuck.
That hurts.
“Lennon, baby?”
I turn my head slightly, my gaze flicking toward his voice and then, there he is. His body sags as he releases a breath and offers me a watery smile.
He looks like absolute shit. There are dark circles under his eyes and his hair is sticking out randomly like he’s been tugging at it for a while. His black t-shirt is wrinkled and as my gaze drops down, I spot blood on his jeans.
I open my mouth to ask him what happened but my throat feels tight and swollen and a whimper comes out.
“What do you need, baby?” he asks. I raise my free hand up to my throat. A cup passes by my line of sight from the opposite side and I glance in that direction.
Jumper offers me a grin. “Morning, sunshine.”
“Don’t fucking call her that,” Dalton growls as he releases my hand and takes the cup Jumper is offering him. Jumper sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Dude, I’m about two seconds away from laying your ass out.”
Dalton doesn’t even acknowledge him, his focus on me as he moves the straw in the cup to my lips. “Small sips, baby.”
I take a tiny sip.
It burns all the way down my throat.
Fuck.
“Another,” Dalton orders, nodding to me and I do as I’m told, taking another small sip of water. This one goes down easier and I release a breath as I lay back on the bed.
“Where?” I force out, my voice cracking and my throat aching. Dalton hands the cup back to Jumper before grabbing my hand again.
“You’re in the hospital, baby.”
What?
I turn, my gaze dropping down my body. The guardrails of the bed come into focus and I suck in a breath before turning back to Dalton. But I move too fast. Pain ricochets through my head and I gasp.
“Slow,” Dalton orders, his brows furrowed in concern as he watches me. “Just move slow, sweetheart.”
“What happened?”
Dalton’s jaw tenses but he holds my gaze. “You were hurt.”
“How?” I ask, my throat still aching with every word I manage to force out. Darkness floods Dalton’s eyes and he drops his head.
“We were kinda hoping you could tell us that,” Jumper says and I slowly turn to look at him. He offers me a warm smile. “What do you remember, Len?”
I lay back into the pillows and look up at the ceiling.
What do I remember?
My memories are foggy and I scowl as I search through them, trying to figure out the last thing I remember.
“I woke up with Dalton…” I start. “And he went to the clubhouse for church.”
The cup is back in front of my face and I turn to Dalton as he arches a brow and nods to the cup. “Drink.”
