“At least eat, fucker,” the other voice says followed by the sound of something moving. My hand moves but I didn’t move it. My mind spins.
What?
Then, I feel lips press to my fingers, my hand cradled between two larger ones.
“Not hungry.”
“Rooster, don’t fucking make me pull rank here,” a new voice says with a sigh and my arm is jostled as something moves against it. A wave of agony rushes through me and I pull in a sharp breath.
“Lennon?”
I try to speak but my mouth is so fucking dry. A hand gently cradles my face, barely touching me, and warm breath fans across my cheek.
“Can you hear me, baby?”
Sucking in a breath, pain lances through me again and I whimper.
Fuck.
Why does it hurt to breathe?
“Come on,” Dalton whispers. “Open those eyes for me, please, gorgeous.”
His voice sounds so broken, so desperate, and everything in me is crying out for him.
I want to.
I need to see him.
But I can’t yet and it makes me want to scream.
Why is my body not working?
“Give her a minute, man,” the first voice says and something tickles at my brain.
Jumper?
“I’ll go get the doctor,” the second voice says and I still can’t place it.
“Come on, Lennon,” Dalton urges, his thumb dragging over my cheek gently. “Come back to me, baby.”
I let out a little cry.
I’m fucking trying.
With all the force I can muster, I attempt to open my eyes. They are so goddamn heavy and I only crack them before light floods my vision. I hiss and slam them closed again.
So fucking bright.
“Turn the fucking lights off,” Dalton hisses. Even through my closed lids, I can see shadows blanket the room and I release a breath as I try again.
My eyes flutter open.
The room spins.
Oh.
Where the fuck am I?
