Gear rolls his eyes and lets Jumper walk into the room first before following him in. Storm tips his chin in their direction and I nod. We head in together and once everyone is seated, he bangs the gavel on the table.

“All right, Roost,” he says and everyone turns their focus to me. “Let’s have it.”

I run a hand through my hair as I lean back in my chair and look around the table. “Right. Jump, Gear and I went to confront Owen yesterday.”

“And?” Streak asks, looking up from his computer.

“And he admits to renting the car but swears up and down that he wasn’t the one driving it.”

Marley leans in, his eyes narrowed. “Who the hell was then?”

“He claims that he rented it for a guy he met at the bar.”

“Oldest fucking excuse in the world,” Jumper adds, rolling his eyes. “It wasn’t my weed, officer. I’m just holding it for my friend.”

Storm nods, turning back to me. “I agree. Why the fuck would he rent a car for some random asshole he met at the bar?”

“Money,” I say, kissing my teeth. “What else?”

“How much does he claim this guy paid him?” Kodiak asks.

“A grand.”

Jumper taps his fingers on the table rhythmically. “Again, bullshit.”

“You don’t believe him?” Storm asks, turning to look at Jumper. He shakes his head, a fire in his eyes that looks very similar to the protectiveness I feel for Lennon. Jumper and Gear have also gotten close to my girl over the past month and they may not be as unhinged as I am, but they would also lay someone the fuck out for her.

“Absolutely fucking not.”

Storm tilts his head and purses his lips. “Why?”

“Because he’s been behind everything else. He called her non-stop, he showed up at the bakery, he was standing outside her apartment, he drugged her at Voodoo-”

“What?” Storm snaps, his gaze flicking to me. I nod.

“Yeah, that was the other piece of information Owen shared last night,” I say, clenching my fist under the table as I suck in a breath. “He admitted to drugging her and said he was trying to get her away from me so they could talk.”

“Talk, my ass,” Gear mumbles, shaking his head. “You don’t need to fucking drug someone to talk to them.”

Understanding floods into Storm’s gaze as he watches me. “This is why you were so out of control last night?”

“Yeah,” I answer, my knuckles aching from how tightly I’m holding a fist. I release it and try to breathe as I think about that night, about my girl stumbling around that bathroom alone and scared.

“Is Owen alive?” he asks and I nod again.

“Fucking barely,” Jumper says, letting out a sardonic laugh. “We had to pull him off the fucker.”

“Maybe we shouldn’t have,” Gear grumbles, leaning back in his seat and crossing his arms over his chest. Storm sighs and drops his gaze to the table.

“I certainly understand the sentiment,” he growls. “If someone did that to Ali…”

He shakes his head.

“Oh, scorched fucking earth,” Streak adds, looking around at my brothers who are already married. “We all would do the exact same thing.”

“Okay,” Storm says, releasing a breath and looking around the table again. “So, we know he rented the car but we can’t prove he was driving it.”

“After everything else,” Chance says, his brows furrowed as he picks at a spot on the table in front of him. “Why not just admit to that?”
