“I have the license plate of the sedan. It’s a rental.”
I step up to him. “Who rented it?”
“Owen Reynolds,” he answers, turning to me with a knowing look in his eyes and every muscle in my body tenses.
Oh.
This fucker is dead.
“What?” Lennon squeaks her eyes wide as she looks up at me. I lean down and press my lips to her forehead again, desperately trying to ground myself. My body is shaking and my blood boils in my veins as I think about what could have happened to my girl because of this asshole.
“I am fucking ending this.”
Chapter Thirty
Rooster
Today’s the day.
Raya and Joey are heading off to their new home, their new life today.
And I’m about two seconds away from losing my shit.
“Breathe, baby,” Lennon whispers from my side, her fingers laced with mine. I force myself to take a breath as I squeeze her fingers but it’s not helping.
Nothing has helped.
Not one goddamn thing has eased the anger and tension that have been thrumming through my body for the past two days.
Ever since I found out Owen rented that fucking car and almost ran Lennon and I off the fucking road, my need for revenge, for justice has been riding me hard. I don’t think I’ve let my girl out of my sight even once in the past forty-eight hours, which she indulged at first because I think it made her feel better too but she finally drew the line against me following her into the bathroom.
She doesn’t think it’s necessary
And she can’t understand why Owen would do this.
I’m not at all concerned with the why.
I just care about ending it.
And today, after we get Raya and Joey handed off to the couple that is taking them on the next leg of their journey, I will do just that.
This is done.
Owen is never going to come near Lennon or put her in harms way again.
“Dalton,” Lennon whispers and I turn to look at her. Her brows are pulled together and she’s studying me like I might snap at any moment.
My girl knows me well.
“I’m good, baby,” I tell her and she sighs, shaking her head as she turns back to the clubhouse.
Storm and Smith are a few feet away, going over logistics and security, while Jumper and Gear load Raya and Joey’s things into the back of the cargo van they will be riding in. Some of the old ladies kind of went overboard, buying them both enough clothes to completely rebuild their wardrobe and they got Joey some model airplanes that he absolutely lost his shit over. He’s got one in his hand now, running around with it held up above his head like it’s flying through the sky while he makes motor noises. Hudson, Jeremiah and Jackson are all playing with him, pretending to try and bomb his little plane.
Our plan today is simple.
The couple picking up Raya and Joey will be parked in the back of the gas station parking lot in their gray van. We’ll park along the side of the lot in front of them. Raya and Joey will go inside the gas station with Jumper, Gear and I while my brothers fan out in front of the van, looking like a bunch of hooligan bikers having a good time. In the back, Ink and Hawk will run their bags over to the gray van.
Raya and Joey will sneak out the back door of the station to get in the couple’s van. Izzy, who looks a lot like Raya, and Hudson will ride ahead and be waiting at the gas station. They will walk back out to the cargo van with the three of us, and hopefully no one will notice that we swapped people.
