I need the gate to be open when we get there or we’ll be sitting ducks.
Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I dial Joe’s number and press the phone to my ear.
“Rooster?” Joe answers.
“I’m being followed,” I scream into the phone, hoping like hell he can hear me over the sound of the engine. “I’m circling back to the compound and I need you to have that fucking gate open.”
“It will close too slowly,” he says and I nod.
“Turn off the motor. Open and close it manually. I’m two minutes out. Get whoever is around up front, waiting for us. This is going to be fucking close.”
I don’t wait for his response before hanging up the phone and shoving it back in my pocket. The road up ahead is the one I need to take but the sedan is too close for me to slow down to take it. Hissing out a curse, I pull the throttle back and fly past the road we need to take.
We have to shoot past the compound, put some distance between the sedan and I before we double back. I pull the throttle back again, eyeing the next turn.
This will have to do.
I hit the brakes hard and turn onto the side road. As soon as we clear the turn, I’m speeding up again. The sedan turns onto the road behind us.
Fuck.
Just a little more.
I speed up again as our last turn comes into view and at the last moment, hit the brakes so I can turn.
Please have that fucking gate open.
The compound comes into view and I let out a breath as I see the gate sitting open with Storm, Chance, Kodiak, Marley, Jumper and Gear standing out along the road.
Thank fuck.
We whip onto the compound and I glance in the mirror as my brothers run in behind me. Joe shuts the gate and locks it as soon as they are all inside. The shadow of the sedan flies by. I bring my bike to stop and kill the engine before jumping off and turning to Lennon. She has tears streaming down her face and her entire body is shaking like a fucking leaf. She’s trying to scramble off the bike, gasping for air but she can’t seem to get control of her legs. I pick her up and hold her against me as I turn to Storm.
“We need to fix that fucking gate,” I yell and he nods, his lips pressed into a thin line as he glances back at that goddamn gate.
“Heard.”
“Put me down,” Lennon gasps and I set her on her feet. She stumbles back and bends at the waist, heaving repeatedly until she throws up on the ground in front of her.
“Baby,” I whisper, my chest aching as I stand next to her and rub her back. Her stomach continues to protest and she is still shaking so badly that I’m not sure how she’s supporting her weight. She looks up at me, wiping at mouth as the tears continue to fall.
“What the fuck was that?” she screams, pointing to the front wall of the compound and I shake my head.
I don’t have a fucking clue.
And it makes me want to lose my damn mind.
“Clubhouse,” Storm says. “Streak is digging into it.”
I scoop Lennon into my arms again and begin carrying her toward the clubhouse.
“I can walk,” she grumbles and I hold her tighter, pressing my lips to her forehead.
“Need to hold you right now, baby.”
She releases a breath and nods, laying her head on my shoulder as she continues to tremble. “Yeah, okay.”
When we step inside, Streak is on his laptop at the bar, his fingers flying across the keyboard. He stops and looks up.
