Almost is Never Enough

Fuck.

I’m going to break this fucking door down.

Letting out a sigh, I shove my hand through my hair, staring at Lennon’s apartment door.

Goddamn it.

I begin pacing back and forth across the tiny metal landing. She hasn’t said a fucking word but her Jeep is here.

Maybe she’s sleeping?

No.

I’ve made enough fucking noise banging on her door that if she was sleeping, it would have woken her up by now.

“Baby,” I whisper, a thread of desperation running through me and I swear to God, it’s about to fucking snap.

Hyde is riding way too close to the surface right now.

And that fucker is all about action.

I turn back to the door and pound my fist against it three times, my heart thundering in my chest.

I just need to see her.

I need to know she’s okay.

“Lennon,” I yell. “Open this door. Please.”

I wait, the sounds of the city rising up to meet me and my pulse galloping in my ears.

Just give me a sign, baby.

A tiny sound.

Anything.

Or better yet, open the fucking door.

Nothing.

“Come on, Lennon,” I whisper, laying my forehead against the wood of the door, my mind spinning.

What the fuck do I do?

She was crying.

I saw that on the cameras and I can’t…

The cameras.

Jerking away from the door, I drag my phone out of my pocket and pull up the camera feed. I’m flicking through them too fast, so fast that I swipe away the living room feed before my brain registers that she was there. My thumb stutters over the screen before I swipe back.

I suck in a breath.

My mind going blank for a second.

Oh, fuck.
