“What?” I asked. “If he doesn’t think I’m bad at it, I’ll show him how wrong he is.”
“I really don’t think that’s a good idea,” Jacob said.
I threw up my hands. “See. There’s the proof then. You don’t even want to see how bad I am.”
“I just don’t think it’s a good idea,” Jacob said again.
“I know it’s not. Because I’m freaking terrible at it.”
“Would you stop saying that?” He removed his arm from around my shoulders.
“Then bang me.”
“Soph...”
“What? It’s not like it means anything. It’s just sex.” I burst into tears. God, what was wrong with me?
“Jesus.” Jacob pulled me into his arms.
“It doesn’t mean anything,” I sobbed.
He put his chin on the top of my head as he rubbed my back. “It does.”
“I swear,” Scarlett said. “If I ever see him again I’m going to slap him so hard.”
“I’m going to put a new Hunter Tech grenade in his pants,” RJ said.
I laughed through my tears and pulled back from Jacob’s hug. “It’s fine. Really.” I wiped at my face.
“It’s not,” Axel said.
“I really liked his class,” Liam said. “But if I knew how much of a dick he was, I would have hated it.”
I took a deep breath. “Like I said, it’s good that I figured this out. I’m just never going to have sex again to save anyone from the torture of being with me.”
All my friends looked at each other.
“Did you not hear anything we just said?” Scarlett asked. “This isn’t about you. Not even a little bit, Soph.”
I shook my head. I wasn’t sure what they weren’t getting here. I’d made it very clear. “It’s fine,” I said again. Besides, if I couldn’t have Mr. Halifax, I didn’t want anyone else. He’d ruined everyone else for me.
It felt like a knife twisted in my chest.
I reached up and rubbed the spot. He hadn’t just ruined everyone else for me.
He’d ruined me.
Chapter 24 – Stop Talking
Thursday
Jacob slid his tray between us. “I got extra fries.”
“I hope you’re hungry then,” I said. Because I wasn’t.
“Soph. You gotta eat.”
“I am.” I took a sip of my coffee. Everything tasted terrible. The only thing I could stomach was coffee. Because the taste of it reminded me of how Mr. Halifax smelled.
