I checked my phone—10:23 p.m., so we were one hour, twelve minutes, and forty-five seconds into our ongoing call.
Unfortunately, I had a seven o’clock shift tomorrow. “I should sleep,” I sighed, snuggling deeper into the blankets.
“Already?” He pursed his lips.
“Some of us work.” I yawned. “Then I have to study before meeting my mate at night.”
Logan was traveling for an away game and would be back tomorrow. I had invited him to spend the weekend at my house, in my pack. I wanted to introduce him to my favorite person in the world—my little brother Ian.
Logan didn’t look happy. I could hear the wheels in his brain drafting an evil plan. “Can I come with you to the library?”
I knew it. “You don’t study.”
“Who? Me? Of course I do, Bunny Doc. How do you think I passed all my exams?”
“Having the nerds do your work and all the teachers be your fans!”
“Who told you that big lie?”
“Killian.” I giggled at his groan. “And you. I mean, Rudolph.”
“I promise I’ll let you study.” He pressed a big, veiny hand to his chest. I loved veins. In forearms, legs, and hands—especially hands. “In fact, it’ll be your best study session ever. Better than with your nerdy—” He cleared his throat. “Than with your roommates.”
“Did you just call my friends nerdy?”
“Did you just call my veins pretty?”
We both paused, just staring at each other, and then laughed at the same time.
“I really do need to study.”
He huffed. “Same! Why is that so hard to believe?”
Very tempted to see him four hours before our planned meeting time, I relented. “Fine, you can come.” I was already regretting it. I’d just study over the weekend at dawn, before everyone else woke up and distracted me. I did that a lot.
A new voice boomed through the speaker. “Can I come too?”
“Nope,” Logan deadpanned. “Go away, Killy.” His right eye twitched three times in a row. Lucien didn’t like that interruption.
“Hellooo, Sweet Pea!”
I giggled when Killian’s face filled the screen. “Rudy here is miserable without you! He talks about you. Like all the time.”
Killian glanced behind his shoulder. I heard Logan cursing and my smile widened.
“And he’s so excited to spend the weekend!” His smirk grew, a cheeky glint in his eyes. “He even went shopping for extra large condoms—” Killian vanished with a yelp.
Logan reappeared, his cheeks as flushed as mine, eyes panicking. “I didn’t buy condoms! I swear!”
The corners of my lips dropped. Why doesn’t he want to mate? “I know,” I said flatly.
He studied my face and opened his mouth to say something, but someone called his name off-screen. “I’ve got to go now. My boys are waiting.”
“For your night run?” Logan would remain in his human form; Killian and Callum, too.
He nodded once. “Yeah. See you tomorrow at the library?”
“I’ll send you the address.”
