I scoffed, taking another step back. “You said you were about to reveal your identity many times. When?”

“At the party, which you forced me to go to.”

“Say what now? I never forced you!”

“You called me before going out with your friends, completely hammered. Of course I had to go to make sure you were safe!”

“I can drink as much as my liver allows. None of your business, Rudolph!”

Logan took an awfully long step forward. So long that he was in front of me again. “Did you expect me not to care about you going to a party, unmarked, full of horny Comet losers?” He sounded incredulous. “One of them was all over you when I found you.”

Garlic Man. His horrible smell flashed through my mind. “Right before you disappeared with three girls!”

He looked taken aback. “They were fans that wanted a pic! I can’t say no. It’d be rude.”

“Rudeness is your specialty! And as it happens, they’re always women. Always!”

Logan studied me, choosing the best strategy or the perfect angle of attack. Then he smirked. “Jealous, Bunny Doc?”

“I’m stating facts.”

“I don’t mind if you are,” he continued, ignoring me. “I love it.”

I tilted my chin up. “I’m not. Jealousy is immature, just like you were at the game.”

“Meh.” He snickered. “I wanted to tell you about me at the party, after that fucking magical kiss.” I glimpsed a trace of a blush on his cheeks. “But then you kissed me again before I could and Lucien tried to mark you, right there.”

I was about to speak but he lifted a finger. “I haven’t finished, Bunny Doc.”

The insolence! I stomped my foot. “Rude as always!”

Logan ignored that comment, too. “When we first met at the wereball conference, you chose to remain quiet next to your twin. You let the Islander insult me. He ordered me to stay away from you. Am I remembering correctly? I think I am.” The pad of his thumb pressed into my cheek. I batted his hand away. “After seeing you in the crowd, watching me…I knew it was you, the girl from the phone, and I was coming to talk.” His nose touched mine, his eyes holding mine prisoner. “But you weren’t happy with your mate’s identity.”

“I…”

“You…?”

I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. Darn his dimples!

“Oh, I see.” He tilted his head, eyes scanning my face.

“I don’t remember that…”

The moment I spoke, his eyes snapped back to my lips. “Oh, no?”

“No.” Why did he have to be so close? His smell was all Alpha male. “You weren’t…I wasn’t disappointed.”

He arched a brow.

“You lied to me! You! Not me!” I panted. “I was just surprised at the conference. I take my time to process facts.”

“So I’m a fact?”

“No! I just didn’t expect…you.”

“Surprised it was me or disappointed because I’m from Dark Diamond?” he said with acidity.

“Yes, but no!”
