Logan let out a sarcastic laugh. “Yes or no?”

“I was overwhelmed, okay? Not disappointed. Why do you always twist things to your advantage? You lied to me, Logan! For weeks, you didn’t say you were my mate.” I paused, catching my breath. “And if I remember correctly, I asked you, Rudolph, for Logan’s number!” He narrowed his eyes at the memory. “And you never gave it to me! Because you were too busy being a petulant child. Asking me questions about my mate. About yourself!”

He rubbed his chin. “You told me you needed a ladder because I was too gigantic. Fun times.”

Obviously, my stupid cheeks had to heat. He stared at them.

“You’ve had many opportunities to tell me! Why didn’t you? It’s humiliating.”

All his arrogant playfulness vanished. “I wanted to speak with you in person, not on the phone. But you had the big exam coming up, and I didn’t want to distract you. Then things got out of hand after we kissed—” We both blushed again and he cleared his throat. “I was really scared the beast would hurt you. I have no control over him; all I can do is hide him.”

“I’ll fix your relationship with him,” I announced, fists on my hips.

He grinned, eyeing me. For a moment, I melted. “Impossible. Too much has happened.”

“You’ll see.”

“So fierce. So beautiful.” A shiver rushed down my nape as his voice dropped to a low growl and his eyes glowed. “So mine.” His gaze lingered on my face as though memorizing it. “I knew who you were from the first time you called me rude on the phone.” A slow smile tugged at his lips. “But the real version? So much better.”

He tipped my chin up, his fingers hard and warm against my skin. “I’m sorry I hid who I was. I wanted to tell you in person. Explain…why I lost control around you. Why I’m different.” He let out a quiet breath. “Guess I’ve spent so long hiding from everyone, I did it with you, too.”

My pulse fluttered beneath his fingers, then spun out of control when his eyes dropped.

He snarled, staring at the pulse on my neck. “Fuck. You have no idea how hard it is not to mark you.”

My cheeks flushed. “Stop being so…Logan!”

“Can’t.” His grin turned shameless. “I’ve imagined it a thousand times.” His gaze climbed from my neck to my mouth. “You expect me to stay in fucking control when you do all these damn cute things? You’re basically begging me.”

“I don’t beg!” I wrapped my hands around his neck. “Strangling you, though? Sure.”

Logan’s lips brushed mine. We never got a chance.

“Ah, ah, ah.”

I wheeled in his arms, hands falling to my sides.

My grandparents stood there behind us. Grandma, with a knowing smile and sparkling eyes; Grandpa, with an annoyed frown, eyes shifting from Logan’s arms around my waist to his lack of a T-shirt.

“Boy, did you notice you have your lycan’s tail?” Grandpa asked. “And you won’t be standing shirtless next to my granddaughter within this pack boundary.” He reconsidered. “Within Scotland.”

“You were right, Yvaine, his ass is great!” Grandma piped in. “Eleven out of ten.”

Grandpa and I both glared at her as Logan breathed out a chuckle. Nice way to add another layer to the Logan Ego Tower—by now it was probably visible from Tau Ceti.

“You’ll be staying in two separate rooms. Don’t even think about sneaking around at night; I have eyes and ears everywhere! Hear me, boy?”

“Yes, sir. Ma’am, nice to meet you as a human. Um, could you excuse me? I need a shower and a change of clothes.”

“Oh no, I won’t excuse you!” Grandma jumped up. “I need to know more about the mate my granddaughter is in love with!”

At that, I blushed so hard I thought my skin would turn red permanently.

“Tomorrow night we’ll have a pack dinner to celebrate the two of you.” Grandpa pounded him on the back. “Now step away from my granddaughter. We’ll show you to the doghouse.”

“Oh, do be docile, fiancé! They’re mates.”

Grandpa Ian made a dismissive noise and turned back to Logan, who as usual, seemed to have no care in the world. “Also, do you know what wereball is, boy?”
