“I need to take some now,” he huffed.
“I only offered it because you were stressed after losing your head under the bed of one of your booty calls!”
Logan’s eyes widened. “I didn’t know you were my mate!”
Someone was defensive about this.
“Too bad you didn’t feel pain in your chest for weeks. I did!” I tapped myself over that silly, stubborn lump of muscle. “Every night, because you’re a lustful beast with no other interests in your head besides reproducing!”
Guilt crossed his face for a split second, then he narrowed his eyes into slits of liquid silver. “I used condoms.”
“And I had to do a chest scan to figure out what was happening!” It was Tiziano, my roommate, who had checked my heart functions. Yet it had been my mate’s fault all along.
Logan remained quiet. This time, there was no pain on his face. Just fury.
“I felt it too when you fucked that excuse of a wereball player. I felt it so much I bled for a whole day, needed a transfusion, and, oh, had to deal with my awakened beast!” he snarled, chest heaving. “It destroyed half of my pack and hurt Dad’s guards before I could control it.”
“Don’t call him a beast! He’s much more gentle than you’ll ever be.”
A golden lock fell over his forehead. My fingers itched to yank it out for mocking my sweet Lucy. So I did.
“Gentle?” Logan barked out a condescending laugh. “Try more like a murderous, brainless ball of evil.”
“He only attacked rogues if they hunted us and animals for food. He never wasted any.”
“You don’t know anything. He’s a murderer!” he yelled. “And he’s always fucking starving. Once he wiped out an entire chicken factory. I’m still paying that off.”
I crossed my arms. “Lucien never lied to me.”
His arms flew out to his sides. “I never lied! I omitted details to protect you!”
We were both panting from shouting now.
“I tried to tell you who I was. Many times. Except, every time—”
“Every time?”
We were close. It has to be this string connecting our hearts. That meddling bitch.
He shook his head. “That Sillas mutt. You had feelings for him?”
I almost laughed. Goddess, he was jealous, smiling so tightly he was probably about to burst.
“Not answering that.”
“Why not?”
“We weren’t together, so I don’t owe you. And you were ridiculous, immature, and so unnecessarily violent with Sillas at the game.”
“Oh, but you can be mad because I was with girls?” he said in a low growl. “Hypocrite.”
“You were with half the female population!”
He pulled at his hair. “You had an ongoing situationship.”
“I don’t want to hear about your hookups and you don’t need to know about mine!”
“I want to know about yours.”
