Yeah. Not even a contest.

I’d choose this every single time.

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

YVAINE

Smoke rose above the treetops ahead, from the packhouse where we’d be meeting Jonathan and Bellatrix. Daylight was dwindling to a thinning veil of gray, dusk coming sooner than expected—or maybe because time always flew by with Logan.

Although, right now, I was more annoyed with him than anything.

“Baby!” Logan exclaimed between a fit of laughter. “You’re supposed to growl from here.” He patted my belly. “Use your diaphragm.”

“Don’t call me baby!” I snapped, batting his hand away while he almost choked on another laugh.

“But seriously, shouldn’t you know how to growl in your human form too?”

“Oh, forgive me for never needing to growl as a human!” I folded my arms and lengthened my stride. “Some of us had peaceful lives. Until you,” I added under my breath.

“What was that, Bunny Doc?”

“I can growl!”

His blond brow climbed expectantly.

“Oh, you want proof?” Ruby bristled. “Let me show him.”

I drew in a deep breath.

The growl erupted from somewhere low in my abdomen, climbing through my chest before rolling through the forest like thunder.

My heart soared. And I had the pleasure of erasing Logan’s smug smile.

Victory.

Until heat flooded his irises, turning them dark and hungry.

“Oh no…” I sighed.

A heartbeat later, I was pinned against his chest.

“Mmm.” His voice carried a growl of its own. “You’re not allowed to growl in front of anyone else.”

Here we are again.

Ever since we had completed the mating bond, Logan’s possessiveness had evolved into a full-time hobby. Not that he’d exactly been subtle about it before, but I used to be stronger.

Now he had weapons.

Since sex was on the table, couch, and basically anywhere with available space, it was a little harder for me to put him back in his place. All he had to do was kiss my neck and I melted into his griddle-sized hands.

Very unfair.

“You’re hard,” I hissed as Logan stopped to nuzzle my neck. I darted a horrified glance around.

“And that’s a problem because…?”

“You can’t be thinking about that here!”
