“Jett, I can’t do this with you. We don’t work. Maybe a long time ago we could but not now. I’m not that girl anymore. As much as I want to be, I’m not.”

He reaches for me and rubs his thumb through the wetness on my cheeks. His expression is desperate, but his touch is gentle.

Jett drops to his knees, taking my hands in his, it’s not lost on me that no one has ever fought like this for me.

“Stop trying to run, Angel. Let me fucking love you like you deserve. You think I don’t know you're scared, baby? I see it every time you look at me. You’re trying to find reasons to end this. I won’t let you. I’ll fucking do anything you want, but let you leave. That’s the one thing I can’t do.”

Sliding his hand down my face, he places it on the side of my neck possessively. As he steps closer to me, his scent envelops me like a cocoon, promising to protect me even though he can’t.

“It’s only you, Mia. I have waited so long, and I can’t promise I won’t fuck up because I will. I can almost guarantee it, but not with another woman. If I do, I will let you go. That’s how sure I am that no other woman will ever touch my dick. I cannot change the past, but my future is yours.”

I fall to my knees and he takes my hand and places it on his bare chest.

“Feel that, Angel? It fucking beats for you. Only you.”

His heart thumps rhythmically against my palm as I feel myself slipping away in his eyes, lost in the gaze that offers me vows I’m not sure he can keep.

I’m a puppet on a string. One look and he pulls me into something I escape. His lips pull up into a daring smirk, his eyes offering filthy promises I want. I’m in big trouble because I cannot refuse him. If Jett wants me, I’m his.

Leaning his head down he growls against my lips.

“Mine.”

“Yours,” I admit and his lips crash into mine, threatening to devour me. Sliding his hands into my hair on either side, he tilts my head as he controls my tongue with his. His groans mingle with my whimpers and become one as he moves his tongue against mine.

He pulls back from our kiss, leaving me dazed.

“Let's get out of here. McKinley and Jagger are back tomorrow. I have a feeling you’re going to need to have a conversation with her about a lot of things.”

Jett isn’t wrong. There are many things I haven’t been honest about with my best friend. I would be really upset if the tables were turned. I’ve always known everything about her because she has been honest with me. I’m a terrible friend and I need to fix that.

Chapter Fifteen

MIA

“They’re here,” Jett yells from the hallway as I finish making breakfast for the four of us. I smile when I hear McKinley giggling as they walk into the house. I place the bacon on the plate along with the French toast and bring it to the dining room table.

“There’s my girl,” I say as I rush to her to pull her in for a hug.

Jett laughs and makes an obscene comment about two girls which breaks us up quickly.

“Filthy animal,” I say with mock disgust before pulling out a chair. I go to sit down but McKinley stops me and grabs my arm.

“Boys go ahead and start eating. Mia and I are going to talk.”

She pulls me down the hallway to one of the bedrooms and points to the bed with an irritated expression.

“Sit.”

I take a seat and wait for the lecture to start.

Kins balls her hand into a fist, the irritation clear.

“What are you doing, Mia? He is a drug addict. He is going to hurt you. I know that. Jagger knows that. And I would bet that you and Jett know that, too.”

I nod as I blow out a shaky breath.
