Chapter Fourteen

MIA

I keep telling myself not to get attached to him. It would be all too easy to become as addicted to Jett Black as he is to heroin. In my head, I know it’s a terrible idea. Too bad my heart hasn’t received the same notice. I stand, watching him perform on stage, and my chest thumps harder than the beat of the drums. Jett is doing a show with Asylum while Dark Notes are on a break for Jagger and McKinley’s wedding. They finish their last song, and he shoots me a wink while motioning for me to meet him in his dressing room. I nod and make my way to the dressing room. As I head that way, I’m shocked to find a redhead pawing at Jett’s bare chest. There’s only one thing I think of as I force myself to look away. She’s thin. Like I used to be. And exactly the kind of woman I’ve seen him with in the past.

The uneasiness claws at my heart when I hear Jett growl through clenched teeth.

“Samantha, get the fuck off me.”

He looks around her, seemingly searching for me, shaking his head when he finds me.

“Angel, come here.” He demands, when he spots me cowering in the doorway frozen in shock.

The woman turns to me with angry eyes traveling up and down my body,a look of disgust on her face, before feigning laughter.

“Oh, so it’s your turn, is it? I hope you know he lasts a week before ignoring your calls.”

Jett places his arm around my waist and pulls me in close to him as he scowls at her.

“Move the fuck on, Samantha. You reak of fucking desperation, and it’s disgusting.”

She turns to walk away but throws over her shoulder, “That’s not what you said when you had your dick inside me. What was it you said, Jett? Oh, right. Best fucking pussy you ever had.”

My stomach recoils at her words, threatening to expel everything I’ve eaten in this hallway. Jett pulls me into the dressing room while my head spins. Leaning down, he kisses me on the cheek, and whispers,

“I’ll be right back.”

I nod, but I’m not really listening. I’m still lost in what just happened, but I’m not an idiot. He went into the bathroom to shoot up.

This is why you don’t fall for rockstars, Mia. Drugs, women, and bad behavior.

Placing my hand on the doorknob, I prepare to leave when Jett appears behind me pressing his hand on the door, preventing me from opening it.

“Angel, you aren’t leaving.” He says, his voice pleading instead of demanding.

I don’t move to look at him. I can’t. My breaths come out heavy as I speak low.

“Give me one reason I shouldn’t.”

Stroking his fingers down the side of my neck he leans forward and kisses right below my ear.

“So many reasons, Mia. She’s in the past, baby. Samantha doesn’t mean a fucking thing to me. She’s just another groupie. But you,” He says as he strokes my face, “Fuck, you’re my everything, Angel.”

I used to be a self confident woman and knew my worth. But once you’re photographed in your bra and underwear and your agent circles all the fat parts of your body on the photos, it chips away at your self esteem until eventually the damage is catastrophic.

“Samantha,” I say quietly, more to myself than him.

Grabbing my shoulders, he spins me around so I’m facing him, the look on his face when he sees my tears makes it clear he knows this is it.

“Angel no.” He pleads.

Jett’s dark eyes stare into my blue ones, his expression one of disbelief. The room is thick with regret for both of us. His for showing me the truth, and mine for letting him in.

“Mia, I didn’t cheat on you. I never would. You’re the only woman I want. Please don’t do this. Stop fucking looking at me with eyes that say it’s over.”

I shake my head trying to clear the emotions that are warring inside my head.

Holding onto his arms, I fight back the tears threatening to fall.
