Her eyes move to Angelo.

“He gave me the phone.”

Angelo goes still.

“What phone?” I ask.

“When I was in the cage.” Her voice shakes. “He gave me a phone so I could call Angelo.”

I stare at Santiago’s face.

Of course he did.

Because every damn person in this room knows something about the man I employed except me.

Adriana turns toward Angelo.

“Maybe he’ll do that for Valentina.”

His expression changes.

“Tesoro—”

“If he helped me, maybe he’ll help her too. Maybe he’ll give her a phone and she can call us.”

She’s reaching for anything.

I can see it.

Angelo can too.

What she doesn’t know is that Santiago doesn’t have Valentina anymore.
