“I’m saying goodbye to my children.”
“You’ve been saying goodbye for twenty minutes.”
She ignores him.
“Call me when you two are back safely from your honeymoon. I need a girls’ day with all my girls.”
“Yes, Mamá.”
Her entire face brightens.
Ricardo chuckles and finally manages to steer her toward the door.
“Good luck,” he tells Luciano over his shoulder.
“With what?”
“Your mother.”
Isadora smacks his arm.
They disappear into the foyer.
I look up at Luciano.
“Your mother’s going to make me ruin my makeup.”
His thumb immediately sweeps beneath my eye.
“No crying.”
“I’m trying.”
“You’re failing.”
“I’m emotional. I got married today.”
“So did I.”
“Yeah, but you’re emotionally constipated.”
His eyes narrow.
I smile sweetly, then glance toward the foyer.
“Riot never showed up.”
Luciano’s arm tightens slightly around my waist. “Does that bother you?”
“I don’t know.” I watch another group disappear through the doors. “I thought he was my friend.”
His expression softens before he presses a kiss to my temple.
“I’m sorry, princesa.”
“Yeah.” I look back toward the thinning crowd. “But I’m not chasing that friendship.”
“I know.”
