Or an accusation.
Luciano answers it with a look so slight I almost miss it.
Interesting.
“Raf.” I smile. “Hi.”
“Good to see you, Elena.”
His voice is perfectly respectful, but his eyes return briefly to Luciano.
He knows why we’re here.
Rafael knows we’re running away.
I like him more immediately.
“You already know Rafael,” Luciano says. He gestures toward the other two men. “Dario and Tiago joined us recently.”
Dario inclines his head.
Tiago looks younger than the others. Dark hair. Watchful expression. Attractive in a way that probably causes problems for women with poor instincts.
Luckily, my instincts are currently occupied by the enormous cartel leader standing beside me.
“I’m Elena Amato,” I say. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Likewise, Miss Amato,” Dario says.
Tiago’s brow furrows.
Only for a second.
His eyes move across my face before his expression smooths and he gives me a polite nod. “Nice to meet you.”
I look at him a moment longer.
Luciano’s hand returns to the base of my spine.
“I’ll show you the rest of the house.”
Rafael looks at him again.
Luciano ignores it.
I let him guide me through the living room, which is larger than my old apartment and opens into another seating area overlooking the back of the property.
Then we reach the kitchen.
I stop again.
“Is everything in this house marble?”
“For the most part.”
White marble covers the counters and floors. Even the massive island looks carved from one solid, offensively expensive piece.
“Why?”
