Luciano laughs behind me. “You like it?”
“There are two!”
“I see that.”
I turn toward him, pointing at the stairs as though he might’ve missed them in his own house. “Why does anyone need two staircases?”
“They don’t.”
“That makes it even better.”
His laugh follows me as I spin around again, trying to take in the entire foyer at once.
“I could slip on these floors and die.”
Luciano catches my waist before I can demonstrate.
“You’re not dying five minutes after I bring you home.”
I look up at him.
Home.
Before I can let that word damage me, I gesture toward the ceiling.
“How many floors are there?”
“Three.”
“Three?”
My voice echoes through the foyer.
Luciano laughs harder, the sound carrying upward with mine.
I stare at him. “That echo is absolutely ridiculous. This house is huge.”
“You haven’t seen half of it yet.”
“I need to see everything.”
“I know.”
“Right now.”
He holds out his hand, his eyes warm with amusement. “Then come with me, princesa.”
I place mine in his immediately.
His thumb brushes over my knuckles before he leads me farther into the house.
Three men wait near the opening to the main living room.
I recognize Rafael immediately.
He’s dressed in black, as usual, with his hands clasped loosely in front of him. His gaze moves from me to Luciano, and something passes between them.
A question.
