Traffic felt longer than usual on the way to work. My hands gripped the wheel tighter as I replayed the fight over and over in my head. I was pissed. It hurt in a way that sat heavy in my chest. The kind that didn't just go away because I had patients waiting on me. By the time I pulled into the parking lot, I barely noticed the drive at all. My phone buzzed right as I put the car in park. It better not be his stupid ass either. When I looked at the screen it wasn’t him at all and I was actually able to smile.

I smiled at the screen longer than I probably needed to before tucking my phone away and heading inside. Work kept me busy, but not busy enough. A few routine cleanings, a filling, nothing that demanded much from me, which left my mind with entirely too much time to wander back to those text messages. Then the fact that I moaned his name, while fucking Kyrie. The more I thought about it, the more I realized the dream wasn't what bothered me. It was the fact that I couldn't stop thinking about him, long after I woke up.

Around noon, Jasmine poked her head into the back. "Kai, you got a delivery up front."

"A delivery from where?"

She nodded toward the front desk. "Girl, I don't know who this mystery man is, but whoever he is, he got everybody being nosy."

I pulled my gloves off and walked toward the front. Sitting on the counter was a bag with two boxes and a garment bag. I opened the first box.

"Who dropped it off?" I asked.

"The driver said he was just told to make sure it got to you."

Of course. I already knew who it was. Rolling my eyes, I lifted the lid. The entire office crowded around before I even had a chance to react.

"Oh my God! These are so cute."

"Nah... those hard."

Inside was a pair of brand-new rose and cream Nike Air Maxes. Inside the shoebox was a cream-colored envelope. I opened it and slid the card out.

I smiled before setting the box aside and opening the second one. A full Gucci tracksuit sat folded inside with the tags still attached and a matching pair of sneakers boxed separately. On top, was a Gucci purse resting on top.

Jasmine's eyes went wide. "Kaior."

"I know."

"These are some expensive gifts."

"I know, Jasmine."

I stood there for a second, staring at everything laid out in front of me, half amused and half stunned. I have been with Kyrie for three years and he never did no shit like this. He didn’t even send flowers to my job. Not even on my birthday.

"So," Jasmine said, arms crossed, watching me with a grin. "Friday, huh?"

"Apparently."

"You gonna wear it?"

I looked down at the tracksuit again, running my fingers over the fabric. "I don't really have a choice, do I?"

Jasmine laughed. "Girl, you have a choice. You just don't want to make it."

I didn't argue with that, because she wasn't wrong. This outfit was gone be on my ass like Velcro on a Friday night. I swear the weekend couldn’t get here fast enough.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Friday came faster than I expected, although I had been ready since Wednesday, if I was being honest with myself. Mama wasn't home. She was still at Bible study, so it was just me, Armani, and Chanel in the living room when headlights swept across the front window.

Armani peeked through the blinds first. "Girl, he's here."

"How you know?"

"Because ain't nobody else pulling up in a car looking like that."

I grabbed my purse off the couch just as he knocked on the door. Chanel beat me to the door, snatching it open before I could stop her. The second she saw him standing there in the same Gucci fit, her eyes got big.
