I nodded. "I'm not. I didn't encourage him, Mama."

"I know you didn't."

"You raised me better than that."

She smiled softly. "I know exactly how I raised you. And if this boy is truly a drug dealer, just think about your father and how it destroyed our family." She picked her fork back up. "Money can buy a lot of things, baby, but it can't buy peace. I don't care how much money a man spends. I care about how he treats my daughter."

I smiled. "I know."

"And if Kyrie's the man God has for you, one hibachi grill shouldn't be able to shake that."

Armani muttered under her breath. "That wasn't one hibachi grill, that was two."

I kicked her under the table.

"Ow!"

"You deserved it."

Chanel started laughing. Mama looked at her and cut her off immediately. "Don't you get no ideas."

"I wasn't," Chanel frowned.

Mama raised an eyebrow. "You looked like you was."

"I was just trying to figure out where I need to work so somebody can buy my office lunch."

The whole table cracked up.

"Girl," Armani laughed. "You ain't even got a job."

"Focus on school and not a job. Don't let your sister have you thinking that's normal," Mama laughed.

Chanel shrugged. "I mean... if somebody wanna buy my class Chick-fil-A, then I'm game."

Armani looked at her like she'd lost her mind. "That's the bare minimum. That's exactly why you need to stay in school."

Chanel frowned. "Okay... so if a man buy me McDonald's..."

Mama cut her off before she could finish. "He better buy you a college application."

Armani threw her head back laughing. "Mama!"

I covered my mouth trying not to laugh while Chanel looked around the table. "I was just asking."

Mama pointed her fork at her. "And I'm just answering."

Talia smiled and shook her head. "Miss Samantha don't play."

"Not when it come to these girls. But that goes for you too," Mama replied.

Armani pointed her fork at Chanel.

"You hear her? Stop letting a combo meal impress you."

Chanel rolled her eyes. "I'm just saying... free food is free food."

I laughed. "You would sell out for a number one with a lemonade."
