Mama looked between us.

"Tell me what?"

Armani smiled. "This dude named Jokah bought lunch for Kaior's whole office today."

Mama paused with her fork halfway to her mouth. "Jokah?"

"Mm-hmm."

She frowned. "What does he do for a living?"

Chanel looked up from her plate. "The way y'all describe him sounds like he’s a drug dealer."

I shrugged. "I don't know what he do. I ain't ask him."

"What?" Mama's eyes widened in shock, but you could tell she was more hurt than surprised.

Across the table, Chanel finally looked up from her phone. "What he look like?"

I pointed at her. "See? That's exactly why you're too young to be in grown folks' conversations."

"I'm just asking."

"And I'm just telling you to eat."

Chanel laughed. "So, is he fine?"

I rolled my eyes. "I'm not doing this with y'all."

"So that's a yes."

"I didn't say that."

"You ain't deny it either."

Before I could defend myself again, Mama set her fork down. "Okay, what about Kyrie?"

The table got quiet and Talia looked at me.

"What about him?"

"Does he know some man done bought hibachi for your whole office?"

"No. He doesn’t need to know that."

Chanel’s eyes got big. "Ooooh..."

I shot her a look. "Girl, hush."

Mama wasn't smiling anymore. "I'm serious, Kaior."

"I know."

"What happened was cute. It was. But you've been with Kyrie for three years."

"I know."

"So, before everybody gets caught up in the grand gesture, don't lose sight of the relationship you're already in." She reached across the table and patted my hand.
