I laughed while drying my hands. "Y'all starting already?"

"We never stopped."

Right on cue, Chanel walked into the kitchen wearing basketball shorts and an oversized T-shirt, her phone glued to her hand.

"Hey."

"Hey, Chanel."

She gave me a quick hug before opening the refrigerator.

Mama looked over her shoulder. "Close that door."

"I'm looking."

"You can look with it closed."

Chanel rolled her eyes. "Yes, ma'am."

Armani laughed. "You'll never win."

"I know."

We all settled around the table once everything was ready. Mama had barely finished saying grace when the doorbell rang. Everybody looked up.

"Who is that?" Mama asked.

Chanel reached for her glass. "Oh, that's Talia. I invited her over."

Before anybody could say anything else, she pushed her chair back and hurried to the front door.

A second later, Talia stepped inside with her daughter resting on her hip. Mama smiled the second she saw them.

"Hey, baby."

"Hey, Miss Samantha."

The little girl looked around until her eyes landed on me. I immediately held my hands out.

"Bring me my baby."

Talia laughed and walked her over. "She’s been spoiled ever since you met her."

"I know." I smiled, taking her into my arms. She wrapped those little arms around my neck like she always did, making everybody at the table laugh.

Talia shook her head. "She loves you real bad."

I kissed the top of her head. "That's my girl."

"Now bring y’all selves on over here before this food gets cold," Mama smiled.

Talia pulled out a chair beside Chanel while I bounced the baby on my lap and feeding her from my plate. Then Armani looked across the table at me.

"Tell Mama."

I kept eating.

"No. Tell Mama."
