I don’t share that he also asked about her and the music. I’m not saying it means anything, but there is a chance Grey might be thinking about Greer in a motherly role.
Fuck. Is that a good thing?
“I need to check your fridge really fast for things I want to cook next week.”
Greer heads for the kitchen, and I take a breath.
What will this do to Grey when Greer and I stop what we’re doing? He knows it’s not real, right? Maybe Greer is onto something when she said she can’t stay and chance Grey seeing her.
But hell, I can’t uninvite her now.
I don’t want to, but I should.
She deserves better.
The thought creeps in like it always does, but this time, another one creeps in with it.
Grey deserves better.
I’m playing with a lot of emotions in my selfishness to have Greer.
And that alone means I should call this whole thing off, but right now, I’m not sure which scares me more: not taking a chance with her or watching her meet and spend her life with someone else.

It doesn’t take long for Calla and Beck’s reception to get into full swing. Considering they didn’t have a ceremony and guests are just showing up simply to drink, eat, and dance, people are having a blast.
Grey especially. I’m not sure there’s anyone here he hasn’t cruised on by on the dance floor.
I think Greer has zero problems being out there with him too. Greer is good at a lot of things, but rhythm is not one of them.
It makes me like her even more.
Fuck. What am I going to do?
If we keep going and don’t name this or set an end date, I’m just going to hurt her. End date or not, every outcome results in me losing her. But hell, I don’t want to think of a life without her.
I swallow the lump in my throat. I can’t fall in love with her and lose her.
I can’t… I can’t go through that again.
“So how are things going with Greer?” my sister asks, waving at a couple I don’t know and taking a seat next to me. “Fake or not, you two are getting close pretty quickly.”
“We’re just having fun,” I say and sip my beer. I smile when I see Greer and Grey doing some kind of robot move over by the drink table. Grey has a root beer bottle in his hand, and Greer leans forward like he’s holding a mike. Robots who sing. Sure, why not?
“Just having fun?” Calla repeats.
“Yeah.”
I glance at Calla before averting my gaze back to the robot duo. I don’t need to continue looking at my sister to know that whatever I said has caused her to worry.
“You know Greer isn’t just a let’s-have-fun kind of girl, right?”
“She is this summer.”
I’m not sure why I said that. It felt wrong coming out of my mouth, but maybe I just need to justify what this is. Give my brain something else to focus on.
“What do you call what you two are doing?”
