“A bonfire?More movies?Read some books?”None of that sounds good to me though.
“I think there’s some old board games in one of the rooms.”Finn squeezes my hand.“We could play for more interesting things than money.”
Perking up at the dirty thoughts that accompany his statement, I arch an eyebrow.“Like what?”
We reach the stone benches and Dante sits, pulling me down beside him, while Finn sits on my other side.
“Still sore?”He tips my chin up.His green eyes search mine.
I exhale and pout.“Yes.”
He smirks and leans in to touch his lips to mine.I pull away at the last minute and glance guiltily toward the house. My brother’s going to find out, but I’d rather it be when I tell him.Not by him finding me fucking his friends, because when they kiss me, I lose my mind and all I want is to keep going until someone is inside me, making me come.
Finn chuckles and brushes his cheek against mine.He whispers in my ear, “Worried Tom will find out about us?”
My eyes widen as he pulls back.“Yes.No.I don’t want him to catch us in the act.”
Dante chuckles too, but it would be mortifying.
I turn and narrow my eyes on him.“Last night was hot, but I know there probably wasn’t really a chance of him walking in or you guys wouldn’t have done it.”
“Don’t be so sure, flower.”Finn leans back on his hands.“I don’t give a fuck if he knows. But I know you want to tell him, so I’m behaving.”His eyes hold mine.“For now.”
I swallow.“Everything is so fucked-up right now.We’re hiding from—what?The Mafia?”
“Not sure they qualify, but I’ll allow it.”Finn nods like he’s royalty.Fuck, with what he’s said about his father, he probably is the most qualified to make that determination.
But still, I roll my eyes. Then keep going, because I opened the floodgates, so it’s all going to pour out.“I have to deal with my brother marrying and impregnating the daughter of the man who kidnapped me and threatened that whatever harm had befallen his daughter he’d do to me.And I really don’t want to be married and impregnated by the Mafia overlord.”
“Wrong word, pip.”
I glance at Dante’s dancing eyes.“Don’t care, boss. You get the idea. He’s out there, and yes, we’re hoping the Feds have enough to bring him in, but what if they don’t?I can’t exactly be mean to him at the next benefit we go to.Or tase him.And what if he decides to kidnap me again?”
“They have enough evidence, flower. They’ll get him.”
“Maybe, but how many rich guys get out on technicalities?”My heart is racing. They’ll lock me up and I’ll never be allowed outside alone again. While I really enjoy being with them, I don’t think I could take that.“You can’t guarantee he’ll stay in jail. And what if he can’t get to me, so he goes after Mom or Caitlyn?”
“Calm down, pip. That’s not going to happen.”Dante’s voice is soothing, but nothing about this is calm.
I stand, needing to get away from their touch and what it does to fog up my brain.Because I want to believe them, but things don’t always go our way.
“You don’t know that. You don’t know what he would do.”
Dante breathes out as he watches me, but he doesn’t say anything.Because he can’t.That’s a very real possibility.I hold my hand over my stomach as it sinks.
That’s not even half of what’s bothering me though.
I look at the house again before turning back to them.“And what Tom did to Wyatt? Why would he do that? They’re best friends. My dad was only trying to protect Wyatt.Wyatt didn’t do anything wrong.”
My eyes water, thinking of the weight Wyatt carried all these years.Probably still carries.
Finn stands and moves like he’s going to pull me into his arms, but I step back and hold a hand up.
“I need to work this out, and if you touch me, I’ll stop thinking and start feeling.”I give him a small smile to soften my statement.“Which I love, but I have to unravel this tangle in my brain before I explode.”
Finn sits and gestures.“Feel free, flower. We’ll listen.”
“Years.”I press my fingers to my temples and close my eyes.A tear slips down my cheek.“Years of keeping Wyatt away from me.Years of saying I’m too good for him because he murdered our father. No wonder Wyatt acted like he hated me.No wonder he stopped caring for me.Tom didn’t care that it hurt me.That I died a little inside every time Wyatt turned away. How could Tom do that?”
