“Not run away from things when they don’t go your way.”I turn back to the pot and dump the water and pasta into the strainer.“But then you wouldn’t be you.”
“Her father was trying to marry her off to one of his henchmen.”Tom straightens.“She’s carrying my baby.”
I shrug.“Maybe she is.Maybe she isn’t.I don’t know the girl, but seems like she found a sucker to get her out of Daddy’s clutches.”
Tom’s face turns red.I shake my head. He’s always been too easy to rile.I turn back to the pan and add the pasta and sauce.I get the vegetables out of the oven and scoop them in.
“She’s not like that.”Tom sounds sure of himself and pissed.
“Isn’t she?”I arch an eyebrow and stir everything together.“I mean, she made you leave your sister. The person you’ve protected from us for years. The one thing you kept away from Wyatt. For what, Tom?”
I wipe my hands off on the towel hanging from the stove and face him without anything in my hands.“Why did you work so hard to keep Sara and Wyatt apart? What would it have hurt if he fucked your little sister?”
A flash of anger sparks in Tom’s green eyes as he swings for me.So fucking easy. He’s always had a quick temper.I grab his hand as it comes for me and swing my other fist into his jaw.
That anger is replaced by surprise as he falls against the cabinet.
“You risked your own sister to get some.So tell me exactly why you thought leaving her in danger was any better than letting Wyatt fuck her.”
Tom straightens and rubs his jaw.“Fuck you.”
“No, Tom.Fuck you.”I grab the pan and a potholder.“Stay away from us.You aren’t getting anything out of any of us until you explain yourself. We don’t need you.”
“Does that we include Sara?”Tom’s words make me smile with my back to him.
I meet his eyes as I turn to go into the dining room.“Yeah, it does.”
Chapter29
Discovery Process
Sara
I yawn for the fourth time and shake my head.Lunch filled me up, but now the work is putting me to sleep.I don’t want to get more tea from the kitchen, but the guys didn’t exactly allow me to get a full night’s sleep last night.Caffeine might be the only solution, especially when the numbers start to dance on the spreadsheet.
I blow out a frustrated breath.
“Come on, pip.”Dante stands and reaches his hand out.His hair is tied back in a bun. He’s wearing athletic pants and a t-shirt that forms to his muscles, leaving me drooling.“Let’s take a walk in the fresh air to wake up.”
I can think of other ways to wake up, but given the twinges inside, I nod and take his hand.Finn stands with us and the others don’t look up from their work.As I pass Wyatt, I trail my fingers across his broad shoulders. His lips tug into a smile and my heart quickens.
I love being able to touch him when I want to.
Drew glances up and his dark eyes meet mine.He smiles and winks before returning his gaze to his screen.Work is important.I get that. But I like when we’re all together.
Dante pulls me against his side as we walk out into the sunlight. The fresh air feels nice as it caresses my skin. It’s doing wonders to lift the drowsy fog that settled over me.I rest my head against Dante’s chest and Finn takes my other hand.
For a second, I relish this moment and then I remember. We aren’t truly alone.
I glance over my shoulder at the house, but fuck it, eventually my brother has to find out and there’s nothing happening here that hasn’t happened in the past. These two always looked out for me and touched me.It was Wyatt who never touched me.
It doesn’t matter that the simple contact heats me up and makes me long for more.More than my body can handle right now.So I just enjoy being able to bask in their warmth.
“What do you want to do tonight?”Dante asks. His fingers massage my shoulder as we walk to the little garden with stone benches.
There’s a lot we could be doing, but most of that is not possible currently.Unfortunately.I release a heavy sigh and try to think of stuff we can do without the internet or sex.I need to stop trying to make up for lost time and just enjoy being with my men.
So I think about it.What could we do?Here in the middle of nowhere?
