“No, Charlotte.I think she’s seeing someone.”

“What makes you think that?”

“I don’t know.Dads have an intuition for these things, and she’s far more secretive than she’s ever been.”Doc shrugged.Charlotte had always been a good kid.Even when he and Nancy were not exactly performing at their best.

“Well, she’s your kid, so if anyone is going to know, it will be you.”Razor sighed.“So what’s the word on Hilary?”

The Bratva problem was no longer a problem. The drugs were out of Rivermont Ridge, and the men responsible were being taken care of.The only loose thread was Hilary, who’d decided to leave town without a trace.

A lot of things had fallen into place just lately.Jamie and June Carmichael were settled back into their home, and the club’s lawyer said there was a great deal of evidence against Wilson, that she would be taking at least half of his income for the remainder of June’s childhood.

Women had come out of the woodwork throughout the Carmichael marriage. While Jamie worked multiple jobs for Wilson to have the education he so demanded, he was also screwing everything in sight. There was also the chance he’d fathered three more kids. This caused him to lose his job at the law firm in Rivermont Ridge. The firm wanted to have reliable family men who families wanted to work with. Not cheating scumbags who toss their wives and kids out on the street. Most of the town had done the dirty work for him.

He kept an eye on the Carmichael house, just in case Wilson wanted to try anything. However, his sources indicated he’d skipped town.If he stopped paying money, then he’d take care of it.

As for him and Sheriff Hayes, they had a new understanding, and neither was willing to cross that line.Boundaries were set for a reason.

He made his way toward his bike, and just as he was about to turn the ignition over and fire up the engine, his cell phone rang.Pulling it out of his back pocket, expecting to see Maeve’s number, he saw Sheriff Hayes’s instead. They had worked out their differences but that didn’t mean they were on speaking terms.

Razor had already turned the engine on for his bike.

Doc was tempted to ignore it, but something in his gut twisted.

“Who is it?”

“Sheriff Hayes,” Doc said, pressing the “accept” button on his cell phone and putting it to his ear.“Why are you calling me?”

“We’ve got a situation.”

He rolled his eyes.

“This time, it involves your woman, the salon, and that girl Hilary you’ve been chasing.”

This made Doc tense up.There had been no sighting of Hilary in town.He looked toward Razor. The salon didn’t just have Maeve, it also had Eden.

“Talk to me,” Doc said, putting the call on “speaker.”

“Shots have been fired within the salon. This was thirty minutes ago.We don’t have a rough number as the blinds on the shop window have been shut.We do have an eyewitness account that saw Hilary enter the shop, and she had two guns. We’re not sure of any casualties at this time.”

Razor was already taking off, and Doc hung up and turned his ignition over. There was no way Maeve could be taken from him.She was perfect. He loved her more than anything, and he felt that moment to the way he felt the same day with Jake. There was a sense of helplessness.

He should have known Hilary would come back.Had she been stalking the two Summers women? He was aware that after Eden found out Mac was cheating on her with Hilary, she cut off ties, but it was Maeve who dragged her out of the house by her hair.

Why did Hilary pick the fucking salon to do her dirty work? Was it because she knew that was where Maeve and Eden were going to be?Was she going to attempt to make some kind of deal?

His mind was not focused but running riot in his head, as he tried to think of all the different possibilities that could play out. They could be toy guns. The eyewitness might not have a single clue as to what she or he saw.

This was driving him crazy, but the distance from the church to the salon felt like a million miles away.Time seemed to slow down, and he needed it to catch the fuck up.

This was too much for him.He felt panicked and tried not to freak out.

Arriving in town, he was there moments after Razor.Sheriff Hayes, along with several of his men, were already on scene. He was surprised to see a couple of his men.He didn’t expect to see Savage, Grim, or Nitro standing in the street. How did they even know the salon needed help?He wasn’t in the mood to answer any questions. All he cared about was his woman.

From the look on Sheriff Hayes’s face, Maeve and Eden were not the only people in there.

“We got reports that suggest Charlotte and Nancy are in there as well.”

This day couldn’t have gone any worse.
