As Baz passed, he met Reese’s gaze. His expression was blank. “Tell JJ to call my father.”
Reese nodded.
The other officers slowly retreated, keeping their eyes on Brantley and Reese as they did. As soon as they turned the corner, Reese turned around, chasing after Brantley toward the barn.
They reached it at the same time Evan opened the door.
“Murder?” Evan snapped.
Brantley passed the warrant to Evan.
“Who the hell do they think he killed?”
“Molly and Sonny,” Reese explained.
“That’s crazy.”
Was it?
Reese wasn’t so sure.

“Where’d they take him?” JJ asked, genuinefear in her eyes.
Before Brantley could answer, Evan came over.
“They had an arrest warrant, which means they’ve got evidence that he’s involved in the crime. That’s the only way the judge will issue the warrant. It does not necessarily mean he’ll be locked up.”
“What crime?” Becs asked, standing beside JJ.
Brantley stood tall, waiting for everyone to quiet down.
“They’re claimin’ Molly and Sonny have been murdered,” Brantley told her, although he wanted more information before he bought that story.
“Where? When? Don’t they need to know if he has an alibi?” JJ asked, panicked now.
“That’s the next step,” Evan explained. “They’ll take him down to the station and detectives will interrogate him first, see what he knows. If they’re convinced he’s responsible, they’ll book him.”
“But he’s a police officer. With a spotless record,” Holly chimed in.
“No one’s given a free pass for murder,” Reese stated.
“I didn’t mean…” Holly shook her head but didn’t finish the sentence.
Brantley noticed JJ’s hands were trembling.
“I want you to have a seat,” he told her. “The best thing for you to do right now is to work with Luca to find everything you can.”
Her eyes widened. She nodded her head.
“I’ll make a couple of calls,” Evan said. “See what I can find out.”
“Better yet, can you go to the station and talk to someone?” Reese suggested.
“Yes,” Evan answered without hesitation. He looked at Becs. “Would you go with me?”
Her gaze shifted to Brantley.
