“That was the one I submitted when we were selecting this season. ‘The House of Yes’,” Stacie laughed. I rolled my eyes. Of course it was her.
“You should go out for it! I’ll cast you. I’m directing it,” she said. Erin gave her a playful smack on the shoulder.
“That’s not fair, I’m auditioning for that,” Erin whined. Stacie winked at me and then gave her best friend a reassuring pat.
“Okay, I won’t pick people yet. But seriously, if you don’t get an acting part you should totally be my assistant. It’ll be the three amigos all over again. Like old times.” Remembering how fun it used to be sold me on the idea.
“Okay, fine. I’ll do it. Assistant could be fun,” I relented.
After I finished my coffee, I went into the theater to see how the twins were doing. I leaned against the wall and my eyes went from them to the stage periodically. Those kids were destined for success. Everything they did they put their all in it. Their instruments, their sight reading, and now this. With genes like theirs though, how could they not be musical prodigies?
When I finally made it home that night, I mentioned the idea of doing another show to Mark. It was just the two of us today. Derek had gone over to Adrian’s.
“That’s great baby. I hate the idea of you being stuck here while I’m with the band. You should have something you like doing too,” he told me. He took a huge bite of his chicken parm and reached for my hand over the table.
“I can’t wait to see you on stage again. Although, maybe a little less dry humping my friends this time?” I burst out in laughter.
During ‘Rocky Horror’ I had the pleasure of grabbing Chase out of the audience and taking his ‘Rocky virginity’.
“I promise I’ll refrain from humping any of your friends,” I said, holding out my pinky to him to promise. I took a bite of my food and then I almost choked on my food when I remembered what play Stacie had picked. If it was anything like the movie, then it would definitely have some heat between the leads.
“Speaking of dry humping, you wouldn’t believe what play Stacie is directing,” I started and then explained what I knew about the show and how I volunteered to be the assistant. Mark laughed with me.
“Man, that’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. Is Erin still there too?”
I nodded and he shook his head. “They are nuts, but it sounds exactly like something she’d pick.” He lifted his beer and we toasted to it. “Good luck with that one.”
The following month flew by. Between taking the twins to rehearsal and making time to spend with Cleo and Mark separately, I barely had time for myself.
I didn’t mind it though. It was kind of nice that Cleo was trying to make sure we went to dinner or lunch alone once a week.
“I feel like I barely know you sometimes. That needs to change,” she told me once.
“Well your schedule is so full I understand it can be hard sometimes.”
“Yeah, but it would be nice to have some girl friends. When Adrian was dating Dita you guys got close and I was so jealous. It’s hard though when I spend most of my time with your guys’ spouses.”
I frowned thinking about Dita. I loved spending time with her, but after she cheated on Adrian it would be kind of awkward to continue being friends. We didn’t talk after that.
“I miss her sometimes,” I mused, and Cleo’s eyes hardened. She was very defensive of Adrian.
“I liked her too, but she crushed Adrian. He really liked her. I hope whoever he caught her with was worth it. Chase is so much better for him.”
I nodded, understanding her harshness.
“So, the big day is next week. How are you feeling?” I asked, changing subjects. She shrugged.
“Okay. Ethan’s finally calmed down and accepted it. For the most part. He’s still upset that we’ll have to abstain from sex for awhile. That and he says it’s going to be weird if it moves when we do pick it back up,” she rolled her eyes.
“Do you have a room for the nursery picked out yet?” She asked after we stopped laughing. I shook my head.
“No, we don’t want to do anything baby related or tell anyone until we know for sure it took,” I explained. She considered it for a minute and then nodded.
“Yeah, that makes sense. But we can’t think negatively. It will take,” she said fiercely.
The big day came too soon for me. Despite wanting to hold my own baby in my arms, it was still scary to think about what we were doing. They had retrieved my eggs a few days before. While I was in the room getting it done, Mark was across the hall taking care of his part.
He told me later that he was so embarrassed when he came out carrying the cup.
