He watched Alphonso walk to the door and open it. The entire time a voice in Sirius’ head kept shouting for him to stop his mate and tell him, but he couldn’t say the words.
“Gods, I’m an idiot.”
Yes, you are, he heard whispered in his ear.
* * *
Alphonso paced outside of Sirius’hotel room wondering what the hell was going on. He’d admit that things were going a bit fast between them and maybe Sirius was right that they needed to step back for a bit. But what had happened not too long ago didn’t feel as if they were taking a breather, but more like he was pushing him away purposely.
He understood that Sirius hadn’t lived around shifters his whole life, but they were mates and he didn’t plan to have the man push him away when things were bothering him. Alphonso was also going through just as many changes as his mate. He was uprooting his and Tamia’s life to move back to Vale Valley. Sirius had no right to push his feelings aside because he thought he could.
With his mind made up, he went to knock on the door, when it opened Sirius looked just as shocked as he was to see him standing there. He went to say something, but in a matter of seconds, his arms were filled with his mate. He circled Sirius’ waist, holding him close.
“I’m so sorry. I don’t know why I was trying to pick a fight. Well I kind of do, but…”
Alphonso cupped the back of Sirius’ head and pulled it back a bit. “Whatever is bothering you tell me, I can’t help you if I don’t know what’s going on.”
“I’m…” Sirius went to speak but stopped when Alphonso’s cellphone rang.
“You’re what?” Alphonso asked ignoring his ringing phone.
“Answer it,” Sirius said going to his feet.
He went to step away, but Alphonso held on to him with one hand as he reached into his pocket to get his phone. Looking down at his screen he recognized the name of one of his clients, Jacqui’s Steele, an actor, and singer. Jacqui’s usually only called him when he was in trouble and couldn’t get out of it. He put his phone on silent then tucked it back into his pocket, turning his attention to his mate. Jacqui’s could wait until he and his mate talked.
“Is it important?”
“One of my clients but he can wait until you tell me what’s going on.” He growled when his phone vibrated in his pocket.
“I appreciate that you want to give me your undivided attention, but I think whoever it is needs you.”
“No, you’re the one that needs me right now.” Alphonso cupped one of his cheeks.
Sirius licked his lips and smiled. “I can tell you later, answer the phone while I go and get my bag.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes,” Sirius told him and went to get his bag.
Pulling his phone from his pocket, Alphonso finally answered. “You better be in fucking jail, Jacqui’s.”
“About time you answered your fucking phone,” Jacqui’s said.
“Yeah, so what the hell do you want?”
“I need a place to lay low for a few days,” Jacqui’s told him.
“What did you do?”
“Nothing,” Jacqui’s said to him after a few moments of silence. “I just need some time to clear my head from some shit that happened, and you’re the only one I trust right now.”
What’s in the fucking water lately?Between Jacqui’s and Sirius keeping things from him, Alphonso wasn’t sure how to help his mate and his friend.
“Fine, I might have a place for you to hide out for a bit. But when you get here, you better be ready to tell me what the fuck is going on.”
“Yeah,” he said then sighed.
“All right, let me make some arrangements then I’ll call you back.” He hung up without having to hear Jacqui’s’ response.
