Chapter Twelve
Sirius
“Are you ready to go?” Alphonso asked him.
Sirius heard the question, but he couldn’t answer, his mind was on other things. He couldn’t wrap his brain around it. They were in his hotel at The Vale Valley Inn. Alphonso had convinced him with a very sound argument that it would be better for the family bond that they live at the mayor’s mansion until their new home was somewhat livable.
“Hey, are you okay?”
Sirius looked up when Alphonso gripped him by the shoulders and was looking at him with worry on his face.
“I’m not going anywhere with you,” he said backing away from his mate. “As a matter of fact, I need you to leave, right now.”
“What the hell is wrong with you? What’s with the sudden change in attitude?”
“Did you ever think about how I feel? About what I might be going through with all the changes that have been happening to me in the past couple of weeks?”
“Of course, I do.” Sirius could tell Alphonso was confused and truthfully, he was as well. “Again, where the hell is all this coming from? Everything I’ve done so far has been for us. I thought you wanted the same things I did?”
“I do.” He looked away unable to bear the confusion written all over Alphonso’s face.
“Then what is the problem with you tonight?”
“There’s nothing wrong with me. I just need you to leave me the fuck alone,” he snapped.
What the hell am I saying?
“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what the hell is bothering you,” Alphonso argued back.
“Everything about this isn’t right,” he said as his mind flashed back to the moment he was in Evans’ office.
“Tell me you’re kidding?” Sirius asked doctor Evans.
It was two days before Valentine’s day and Sirius, had woken up feeling a bit sluggish and thought he was coming down with something. A few hours later during his shift, he was in the bathroom puking his guts out. He hardly got sick and couldn’t figure out if he’d eaten anything to make him feel the way he did. Nothing he ate that day stayed down, or it had a strange taste to it. It was only after he felt dizzy that he finally gave up and went to Evans to check him out. He hadn’t thought that he’d be pregnant.
“I’m not, I’m just wondering how you missed the symptoms,” Evans said to him.
“I’m…” he couldn’t finish the words.
“You’re pregnant, Sirius. I take I you’re not happy?”
He couldn’t answer Evans because he wasn’t sure how to feel. He and Alphonso had only just gotten mated and bought a house. Fuck, I’m pregnant.
How could things happen so quickly? The bewitching, a voice that sounded like his mother whispered in his ear. Then he remembered something else Brigid said. Once a witch found their true mate and the bewitching took effect not only do things happen fast, but their true desires were given to them in ways that are least expected.
Was having a baby one of my desires?Sirius wondered as he sat on the bed. He was so confused he wasn’t sure what to do. “What’s, not right?” Alphonso asked.
He went to say us but knew it would be a lie. They were perfect for each other. Even if fate hadn’t put them together, he had a feeling that he would have met Alphonso in one way or another. They hadn’t even said those three magic words yet, even though Sirius knew he was falling deeply in love with Alphonso.
“Hey,” Alphonso said kneeling in front of him. “Whatever it is, we can work it out together.”
“Can… can you give me a couple of days to think through some things. I just need to wrap my head around all the changes that are happening to me.”
“You’re not the only one that’s going through a few changes, Sirius,” Alphonso said to him in an even tone.
“I know that,” he snapped. Alphonso gazed at him lovingly, and he felt bad that he couldn’t utter the words to his mate that they were having a child. “Look I just need some time to think.” Sirius wanted to be able to tell Alphonso that their little family was growing, but he needed to accept it first.
“All right,” Alphonso said getting up. “I’ll give you the space you need.”
