They started to giggle.
Bahran was pleased that they had found one of Caoimhe's friends, or rather, she found them and that it made Caoimhe happy.It was good, for she needed that.A dark cloud seemed to cover her being before.
Though perhaps believing that everyone she knew was dead would do that.
Bahran could attest to that--it certainly did something to one's soul.
"Let me try something," Kian said.
Bahran made an adjustment on his end.
And the connection started to fire.
It sputtered and sparked, but it started to come to life.
The females cheered.
The vessel started to hum and moan like a ship was supposed to do, but it didn't last long.
Bahran looked down at the fuel cells."It's already depleted the first cell."
"Talk about crappy fuel usage," Caoimhe said.
"Probably just initial ignition," Kian replied.“Hook up the others.”
"I hope," Bahran muttered as he connected the other cells and sealed up the chamber.
“Try number two,” Kian said.
This time, the ship started to hum and warm like it wanted to fly away.Which was good, because he wanted to get out of here.The girls had already shot down a drone that had flown into the venting.
"We can board now, and return."
"Let's go," Freya said."The apartments we have at the capital are much nicer.With much better beds."
"I wasn't complaining," Caoimhe said.Her gaze darted to Bahran."There was enough padding for me to be very comfortable."
"Well, at least you had that going for you," Freya said.And then she followed Caoimhe's gaze."Oh.Never mind.Don't mind me."She sprinted onto the transport.
Caoimhe walked toward Bahran."I guess it's time."
He nodded."We need to make sure you're delivered safely to the capital."
"Then is your protocol finished?"
"No."
"No?"She raised her eyebrow.
"I am here to protect you in whatever way you need.For as long as required."
"Until you get new orders from Master System."
"I may get new tasks, but I do not expect to get new orders."
She reached up and stroked his cheek."I am glad you're here, Bahran."
He covered her hand and pressed it into his cheek."I am happy to be here."He leaned down and kissed her forehead."We must get you safe."
