Not strengthen it. Instead the need to take her right here on her living room floor throbbed inside him. As she pressed against him, her hips rocking into him, it only flamed the need more.

He pulled back.

A pause.

Not because he wanted to, but he didn't know if he would be able to stop himself if he didn't.

And weren’t they expected at her mother’s house? While pulled pork sounded good, there were other things he could dine on tonight, and he’d be quite content.

Just being here now, alone time with her sounded way better than any home-cooked meal.

Especially when she had that dazed expression on her face. That expression did nothing to help him calm his growing need.

He stroked her cheek.

"Do we have to go to family dinner?" Winter asked.

He smiled. "It's your family. That's your call."

"I could cancel. Order a pizza."

"Whatever you want to do," he said, holding her to him.

He leaned down and kissed her throat. Damn, but she tasted incredible. Felt incredible.

She moaned, wrapping her arm around him. Their bodies pressed together again, and any semblance of space he’d tried to give them was gone.

Staying in sounded like the best damn idea in the world to him.

"Yeah. Maybe I should--"

The shrill of a phone stopped her.

She sighed.

"That's probably them, wanting to know where we are." She pulled away. He hated losing the feel of her, though he did enjoy watching her walk in those heels across the floor.

She pulled out the shrilling phone.

“You have a hard time saying ‘no’ to your family?” he asked.

Winter shrugged. “It’s all the family I have left.” She didn’t look at the screen, just hit the green circle. “Hello.”

Even from across the room, he could hear the man's voice.

"Winter? This is William."

Winter's face went pale.

Shaun stepped toward her. His protective instincts sprang to life.

She held out her hand to stop him. Her posture that had been relaxed suddenly went rigid, and her expression shifted to that of a trapped critter. Wide-eyed and terrified.

"What is it?" she asked. "The kids?" her voice choked with the last part.

"The kids are fine," the man on the phone said.

Winter's gaze darted to Shaun. Her expression eased. Then she inhaled a breath.
