Oh yeah.
She's perfectly happy and content.
Maybe he needed to reconsider dinner with her and her family.
* * *
Winter pulledup to a modest brick ranch. Simple. Cute.
Not what he expected.
Homey. Sort of. He half expected her to be living in one of those modern houses over on the far east side, so he was pleasantly surprised they were in such a modest neighborhood.
No visible Christmas decorations were left up though, unlike his Christmas lights. He’d probably have those up for at least another month. True, he liked them. But It was damn cold to be on a ladder if he didn’t have to be.
Winter wouldn’t have that, though. She probably had boxes in storage with each season meticulously printed on each box. If she did seasonal decorations at all.
He walked up the drive and met Winter. She waited for him, but her shoulders shivered.
That coat she wore didn’t look particularly warm.
"Am I okay in the drive?"
She nodded. "Come on in. That wind's really picked up." She clenched the coat tighter around her. Her shoes crunched in the snow as she walked up to the front door.
"It has," he said as they walked up the path, the cold bitter and biting. There was no doubt all that thawed and wet ground would be a sheet of ice in the morning. Fortunately, he didn't have anywhere pressing he had to be in the morning.
He followed her inside, and the house was simple. It looked perfect.
Not a throw pillow out of place.
Nothing, really out of place. Everything looked like vintage furniture. Modern looking, vintage.
Frank Lloyd Wright would have loved it.
“If you just give me a moment,” she said as she peeled off her coat and tossed it over the nearby low chair.
She walked toward her bedroom.
He took a step toward her. “No.”
She paused. “What?”
“No. I won’t give you a moment.” He crossed to her.
She put her hand on her hip exhaustion marring her brow. “Then what are you going to do?”
“This.”
He did what he’d wanted to do since he walked into the salon today. He pulled her against him and kissed that delectable mouth of hers.
For a second, and only a second, Winter was rigid against him. He slid his hand over her shoulder, and her body relaxed.
And so did her mouth.
The kiss deepened and she wrapped an arm around him. She pressed against him and he groaned as they melded together. Body heats mingled and his desire grew by the second.
This was supposed to calm his desires. Reduce the need for a while.
