“I was in the area and wanted to see if you wanted to take me to breakfast.” Kai turns to face me. “And Reagan apparently.”
Leo shrugs. “I’m only agreeing because if I have to watch Rae eat this crap, I’m going to be sick.”
“What?”
I dip my cookie in the thick paste and shove it in my mouth. Kai’s eyes go wide. “That’s disgusting.”
“What the baby wants, the baby gets.” I shrug my shoulders.
Leo grabs my hand, stopping me from getting another. “I'll make us all breakfast, just no more.”
Leo
“So why are you really here?”I’m down in the kitchen now, making eggs while Reagan gets cleaned up.
“Had some time to kill before meeting a lady friend. So I figured I’d come over.” He pops a grape in his mouth, looking like he doesn’t have a care in the world. “So is she living with you now?”
I didn’t have to ask about which “she” he was talking about. “Some idiot at her flat flooded the pipes, so she can’t stay there.”
“So what is this, a friends with benefits kinda thing? Or a baby daddy with benefits?”
“Would you fucking stop it?” I love my brother, but sometimes he wears me out.
“I’m just saying, whatever you’re doing, you look happy. Not as grumpy.”
“Maybe if I’m grumpy, it’s because of you.”
I don’t want to think about how happy it makes me that she is here. That she came home with me last night. It would’ve been just as easy to find a hotel for her. But I wanted her here. To have her in my space.
“So you’re going all-in on this dad thing?”
I nod, focusing on finishing breakfast. “I am. Gives me the chance to be the parent we never got.”
“Does it make you nervous?”
I blow out a breath, my brother being the only one that I can tell the truth to. “It terrifies me. I’m worried I won’t be able to hack it. That I’ll fail them at every turn.”
“Maybe that means you won’t be able to hack it.” Kai pops another grape into his mouth.
“Can you not be a shithead for once in your life?”
“Sorry, but if you want me to confirm what you think will happen…sure, I’ll do it. But I don’t think for a minute that you think you’ll fail.”
“Can you take your fucked-up logic elsewhere?”
Kai hops off the counter, heading to the door. He’s just about to leave when Reagan comes back in the room. “Are you not staying?”
“My big grump of a brother isn’t in the mood for me.”
“Leo, he’s your brother.” Reagan gives me a look that would have a lesser man shirking away. “C’mon, Kai. You’re staying for breakfast and going to tell me all about your brother growing up.”
“Is that really necessary?” I sigh, plating the breakfast I’ve made.
“I think so. What if you were a hellion growing up? Don’t you think it’s necessary I know what I’m getting myself into?” Reagan raises a brow at me, begging me to argue. The only thing I’d like to beg for is more of last night.
“It’s a little late for that, don’t you think?” I give her an equally piercing stare. The slight quirk of her lips tells me she likes it. This give and take with Reagan shouldn’t be as sexy as it is, but it’s a huge turn-on. I love that she doesn’t take any of my shit.
“Well, in case you were wondering, Leo was a saint of a child. Granted, he ran around naked, but who doesn’t do that?” Kai sits down next to Rae, a smile spreading across his entire face.
