He pulled in a deep breath. “How will I know, mommy? How will I know his perfect soulmate?” His eyes stayed fixed on my face and my tears now flowed freely. I stared at the writing, trying to imagine how he’d put all these words together. Who’d helped him? Trent perhaps? A teacher? Then I began reading once more.

“Because she will smile like the sun. She’ll cry like the rain. She’ll dance like the breeze. She’ll sing like a nightingale and most importantly, she’ll make you a promise without knowing you.”

Oh, my God.I swallowed my gasp. The spookiness of that description hitting me square in the chest just as Nicky murmured, “Just like you when I was standing at the door, mommy?”

Not sure what to say, I stared as those innocent blues roamed my face, his expression expectant. What did I say? “Will you be my daddy’s soulmate?” He grasped my hand. “Please.” His eyes glazed over, and my heart dropped through my body to my toes.

“I—”

“Nicky?”

We both looked up. Trent stood at the door. Once more, anxiety laced his small smile. Nicky let go of my hand and hurled himself at his father’s body. Looking at me, Trent hugged his son, silently asking me what had happened?

Nicky answered by tugging his father down to his level. Trent crouched and looked at his son. “She’s going to be your soulmate, Daddy.”

Trent looked up, his brow tight with shock. I shrugged, offering him an unsure smile. There was nothing else I could do. He opened his mouth to say something but Neha running into the room distracted him. Nicky walked over to my side and held his hand out for the letter. Smiling, I handed it over, even though I was curious to finish it.

“Daddy, can we take Ashrika to the farm please?” Neha asked as Trent neared me.

“Farm?” I asked.

Laughing, he dropped his large frame into the seat next to me. “I own farms that grown the produce for my restaurants. That way I get to say what fruit, vegetables, and dairy products are used.

“You’re serious?” I was enamored.

He nodded. “Want to take a drive? It’s about an hour out in the countryside. We’ll be back in time for dinner or not.”

“It’s so cool.” Nicky slipped in between me and Trent.

I caught his surprised look over his son’s head and hid my laugh. It seemed like I had two Shaw men vying for my attention.

Ashrika

“OH, SHIT, NO!” I YELLED, hopping from one foot to the other. “Gross.”

Trent rounded the corner of the dairy, took one look at me and burst out laughing. I glared at him. “Not funny.”
