Damian panted, his eyes wide. “Yeah… fuck… let’s gut him… and then tie it up. We’ll eat it tonight. It will rot otherwise.”

Gabe stayed silent, watching Damian kneel next to the animal, gutting it with ease. He looked up at Gabe’s silence. “Hunting…”

“I know…” His heart still ripped for that piglet, but he helped Damian tie it up on a branch. “Let’s carry it… If there’s one, there’s more.” He grinned, the piglet dripping blood as they walked further. Gabe’s eyes drifted to the sky after a long walk. “We need to light a fire whilst we still have some sun, and then camp.”

“Yeah…”

They settled under the trees, grilling that small pig, the roasting meat’s scent already insane.

Gabe swallowed that flood of saliva invading his mouth. “So… almost a week here…”

Damian looked up. “Yes… a bit unreal…” His voice dying, thinking of back home. “They must have buried us by now… or they’re planning our funerals.”

“You don’t think they will keep looking…”

“That plane smashed, Gabe. Do you seriously think any of those search guys are going to scavenge the thousands of islands to find ‘survivors’?” He shook his head, turning the pig above the flames. “Even if… it might be weeks, months…”

“Years…”

Damian looked at him, a sudden chill down his spine, that setting sun coloring the air, a hostile color, another storm hanging at the edge of the horizon. “Yeah… years… fuck…” He sighed. “Somebody in our families should be the one pushing…. But there’s nobody in mine. If anything, they are dancing right now…. I told you.”

“Your parents?”

Damian shook his head. “No… not even them.”

Gabe gave him a bitter smile. “Yeah… my parents won’t push. They will just accept it and move on…. Raphael might…. My ex…” Not even believing his own words.

“So, that’s it. We’re doomed to wear clothes that wash off to shore and build a life out of junk and forest.”

“Build a life together…” He’d said it quietly, and Damian just smiled, biting back his words.

Chapter 7

Theywalkedalldaythe next day too, the sun high up. Exhausted, they stopped for the night near another beach. The sky rumbling further, lightning at the edge of dark clouds. They quickly built a small shelter, just some palm leaves tied to branches and huddled under it, Gabe wedged against Damian, their eyes on the rising storm. A pouring rain after a couple of moments in the dark. It put out the fire and drenched their small shelter, seeping through the leaves.

“Fuck.” A small breath in Gabe’s neck, and he just smiled. Feeling him breathe, that strong arm resting on his waist. Breathing a bit against the flutters in his stomach because he only wanted to turn his head to him, part his lips, and let him kiss him…a dream…a futile dream, he knew.

Damian stayed put, not even wanting to move, every slide of his body on Gabe’s sending soft shocks to his heart. Their skin met where their T-shirts were too short, above the waist, and it was almost unbearable. Fortunately, his dick decided to stay put, which made him sigh in relief.Last day was an accident, it’s as good as dead…Lying under that pouring rain, trying to find sleep when his whole body was burning.Insane.

Another three days of walking, but this time, they got back to their beach by sunset. Relieved, almost like getting home after a journey.

Gabe tore his clothes off, except for his boxers, and rushed into the water. “I need a bath!”

Damian followed him, and they sat on the beach later, waiting to dry, their eyes on the setting sun.

Gabe spoke first. “Ok, so this is not a big island, but we need to explore the jungle too… see what we can hunt and gather… and that’s it. Nobody else here… no other islands in sight…”

“No…” His steel eyes on the drowning sun in that violet and orange sky.

“If we had phones, we would be snapping this, and posting.”

Damian laughed. “Yeah… funny… how I forgot about the phone…”

“I miss mine… a bit. It would be handy now. We could take pics, record what we’re doing…”

“For what?”

“You know, posting them when we get rescued.”
