Storm
“Storm, comewithme.”Porter motions for me to follow him.
We enter the room we hold club meetings in.Some clubs call it church, but Porter refuses to do that.He says church is for God and nothing we do behind those doors are holy.He calls it our assembly.
“Are we calling an assembly?”
“Nah, this is just between the two of us.”He pats me on the back and we continue walking.
I swallow hard.I haven’t done anything wrong, but that doesn’t mean Porter hasn’t noticed my feelings towards Dixie. He might be angry and putting me in my place.Jeez, he could remove me as vice president and I couldn’t even blame him.
I know if I had triplet daughters, I’d be protecting them from men even more than Porter is.I’d hide them away and then only let my most trusted men near them.I’d probably try to organize marriages between them and my most trusted guys.Make sure they have a husband I know could take care of them in the event I can't.
Porter takes his seat at the end of the long wooden table. He leans back and tucks his hands behind his head, looking more than comfortable.
“What’s going on?”I take my normal seat to his right, I'm not nearly as comfortable as he is right now.
“What’s going on with my Dixie?”
“Dixie?What do you mean?”
Shoot. He knows I like her and he’s going to tell me to stay away from her.Again.How many times are we going to have this conversation before he realizes this isn't just lust that I can will out of me?
“She isn't happy. What do I have to do to make her happy?”
“Why do you think I’d know?”I arch a brow.
I know exactly what would make her happy, but I'm not sure if right now is the time to share that with him.In a selfish way, I want to figure out a way to give Dixie her dreams on a silver platter.
“I wasn’t sure if she said something while she was drunk.I know she’s a little less guarded and careful with what she says when she’s drunk.Oakley, on the other hand, zips up like a vault when she’s drunk.I don’t know how the girl does it, but it’s impressive.I wish she could teach some of our guys her tricks.”Porter chuckles and shakes his head.
“She mentioned something to me this morning when I saw her in the kitchen. She isn't happy making the same meals every week. She feels like she’s wasting her skills.”
“I can understand that.”Porter nods his head.“I need her making meals that are big enough for the whole club though.”
There are about fifty people who live on club property and eat dinner here every night.Sometimes, we have more. Some of the guys don’t live here, but will eat if they’re already here.Other times we have members of other Savage Wolves chapters around. We always welcome them with a nice meal and a place to stay until they’re ready to leave.
“What if I work with her on finding meals that are different from what she’s currently making, yet can work for the whole club?”I offer, willing to do almost anything to make Dixie happier.
“I like that idea.I won't say a word to her; this is all on you.”
“Thanks, Porter. What else did you want to talk about?”
I eye him, knowing he didn’t pull me into this room to talk about Dixie only. There’s something else he doesn’t want anyone else to hear.
“The Sinners are moving closer to our territory.I don’t want to get the entire club involved yet, but we’ll have to have an assembly about it soon.I don’t like it.”
“Do you think they’re wanting a war?”
“I'm not sure.Their president wants a meeting and I don’t really want to give him one.Not yet.Not until I know what their plans are.”
“Do you want me to take Chopper and do some surveillance?”
“Yeah.I need to know what they’re up to before I agree to a meeting.I don’t trust them and I'm not going to unless I have some facts we can gather alone.”
“No problem.Do you want us to wear our cuts when we go?”
“Yes.I want them to know we have an eye on them and they can't get away with things on our territory.Just don’t go past our lines.I wouldn’t put it past them to go after you.You and Chopper are the last people I want to lose from this club.I don’t know what I’d do without the two of you.”
