I swallow hard and nod. What else do I say to him?I'm a horrible man and he shouldn’t trust me as his vice president because I'm in love with his daughter?
I can't tell him I saw his daughter practically naked last night.I can't tell him how it took every ounce of my restraint to keep my hands to myself when all I wanted to do was pull her into my arms and kiss her.I can't tell him I'm wondering what I’d have to do to convince her to date me in secret.Anything to make her mine.
But I can't do that to Dixie. She wants a man who’s proud of her.One who will always put her before anything else in their life.
I'm not the man for her.Nothing will ever come before the club and she deserves better, even if it breaks my heart to say that.
Chapter 10
Dixie
“Yeah, butdidhetry to kiss you?”Oakley asks as she shuffles through a few stacks of paper, looking for an invoice.
It’s been a week since the night we went to McHugh’s and I can't stop thinking about how Storm was acting.
“No, but he kept glancing at my lips.”
“Hmm, are you sure you didn’t have some dried drool there or something?”
“I don’t drool!”
“You were drunk.Everyone drools when they’re drunk.”She shrugs, barely paying attention to me.Sliding open a window to the shop, she sticks her head through.“Jasper!Where is the bill for Carlson? He’s going to be here any second!”
“Coming, boss!”Jasper runs towards the office, swiping his greasy hands on his coveralls.
“I swear you’re going to be the death of me, Jasper. Is it really that hard to put the invoices in the correct spot?”Oakley places her hands on her hips and glares at him.
“You told me to put them in the top drawer.I did that.”He tugs open the top drawer and sitting right on top is the invoice for Carlson.
“Well, it’s weird that you listened.Everyone else just drops them on my desk and makes me sort through them,” she huffs out.
“So… Do you want me to put them in the drawer like you asked, or on the desk like everyone else does?”Jasper runs a hand through his hair, smearing the black grease into his blond strands.
“I don’t know,” Oakley sighs as she flops back in her chair.“I guess the drawer. One of you listening is better than none.”
“Ok.Do you need me for anything else?”He smiles sweetly at her.I swear he might be my favorite prospect ever.
“Nah.As soon as Carlson comes, I'm heading out.Can you make sure the place gets locked up when you go?”
“Of course.”He lingers, staring at Oakley.
I raise my brow at my sister as a smirk tugs on the corner of my lips.I swear the fact Oakley doesn’t show interest in anyone makes men want her even more.Especially the prospects.
“Do you need something, Jasper?”She folds her arms over her chest and arches a brow. It’s a bad move on her part because all she does is make her chest look nicer and he’s definitely noticing.
“I just… I was wondering…”
“Do you know the club rule about the Reeves triplets?”I cut him off before he can choke out the words. This will save us all time and him the embarrassment.
“Yes.”He nods his head firmly.
“So, do you actually have anything else to say?”
“No, ma’am.”Jasper drops his chin and stuffs his hands in the back pockets of his coveralls.“Have a nice night.”
We watch him return to the garage before Oakley lets out a long sigh and collapses into her chair. She rubs her temples and I'm sure she’s fighting off a headache.
“Are you alright?”
