He lifted her into his arms and stood as if she weighed nothing. “I can walk.”
Logan growled. “I thought I would lose you, so let me have this.”
She couldn’t argue with him. There was a moment she thought she might lose him too. Laying her head on his shoulder, she let him have this without further arguing.
“I didn’t finish getting dressed.”
He stopped and grabbed a robe to hand to her.
“Thanks.”
Logan continued to carry her into the other room. He placed her on her feet. She put on the robe, then he pulled a chair out for her to sit. Logan loaded her plate with lots of food, too much food. She laughed again.
“Why are you always overfeeding me? I’m going to be as big as a house.”
“It’s a custom for my people. It is the male’s responsibility to care for his mate, ensuring she is safe, sheltered, and fed.”
Faith reached out a hand to cover his. “I love how you care for me. Other than my parents and Felix, no one else bothered with me.”
“You have me now,” he told her.
“And you have me,” she replied.
He pulled his chair closer to hers and spooned some food for her. He lifted the food to her mouth, and she opened to eat. It felt amazing to have someone caring for her out of love. Everything he did for her was his way of showing his love. It occurred to her she had not shown Logan how she felt.
Picking up a fork, she scooped up some scrambled eggs and lifted it to his mouth. His eyes sparked with surprise and pleasure as he took the food she offered.
She smiled. “On Earth, a husband and wife are partners. They divide the work equally, if possible. They care for each other equally.”
“I asked the assistant about human claiming customs. She mentioned a thing called a wedding. Is this something you would like to have?”
Her hand hovered with more food as she looked into his eyes. “Are you asking me to marry you?”
Logan shifted as he moved to kneel before her. “The assistant showed me videos of males doing this.” He raised his hand palm and in the center was a gold ring with a diamond.
Faith dropped her fork. “Oh my God!”
“Faith, my beloved. Will you do me the honor of agreeing to marry me in your Earth ways? We are already mates as I recognize you. I will love, honor, and care for you all of our days until the gods call us to them.”
Tears came again, but this time, it was joyful. “Yes. Logan Coor of Drasta. I agree to marry you in my Earth ways. I recognize you as my mate. I will love, honor, and care for you all of our days until the gods call us to them.”
He slipped the ring on her finger, and she launched herself into his arms. They kissed, and it was like their souls finally melted into one another, making them one.
“I love you,” he whispered between kisses.
“I love you, too, my big sexy alien.” Her heart felt whole for the first time in so long. A peace filled her, and she knew her parents were looking down at her and rejoicing.
When they pulled apart, he stood, smiling. “Well, that went better than I thought.”
She gave him a devious smile. “There’s only one thing.”
“What?” he asked curiously.
“We have to tell my brother we’re getting married.”
He growled as he plopped in his chair. “If I must.”
She laughed. “We’ll talk to him together… later.” Standing, she walked the few steps to his chair and sat on his lap. Faith wrapped her arms around his neck. “Didn’t you say something about making love to me all night long? When does that start?”
He growled for a different reason. “Now, right now.” He kissed her and everything but the two of them faded, as it should be. As the gods willed it.
