“You could join me… in the shower,” she offered.
A low growl of need came out. “You are a temptation, but I am going to order us something to eat.”
She pouted. “I told you I wasn’t that hungry for food.”
He smiled and leaned in for another kiss. “I have had nothing since this morning. I will need my energy if you intend to have me pleasuring you all night.”
Faith surprised him by pushing him away from her. “Go get the food ordered. I should be out shortly.”
Chuckling, he left the bedroom and went to the main living space. His mate was amazing. He couldn’t wait to take her to the command ship. So many things he wanted to show her, and experience with her. Seeing things through her eyes made everything more exciting.
He had grown tired of the constant traveling and was ready to return home. Now, he couldn’t wait to show her all that the universe offered. How would she react when they reached their first spaceport? All the different aliens she would meet there. She would need a translator implant so she would understand the different languages she would encounter. Logan looked forward to exploring the different worlds with Faith while they made their way home to Drasta.
He wasn’t lying. His mother was going to absolutely adore Faith and would expect them to have her grandbabies quickly upon arrival. It might be underway by the time they arrived on Drasta. The thought of Faith with his child pleased him very much. But they needed time to get to know one another and to allow their bond to grow. Luckily, they would have a few months before they reached Drasta. He used to hope his time on Earth would be short, but now that he had his mate, he was looking forward to learning everything he could about Faith.
Chapter 40
Faith
She felt so much better after her shower and looked forward to putting on clean clothes. Wearing a hospital gown was awkward and itchy, not to mention breezy in the back. She opened the dresser drawers and smiled. He even had her underwear moved. Though, she worried about who had handled her intimate wear.
Faith selected a bra and underwear set, then she went to the closet and picked a pair of jeans and a floral peplum shirt. It was from the items she had purchased at the shops before she was kidnapped. She thought about that day and dropped what she held and fell to her knees.
Her memories flooded her, almost overwhelming her. The hard hands grabbing her, losing consciousness, then waking up to be tortured by Waller. She could have died so many times over. Faith didn’t want to die. Not now that she found something, or someone, to live for.
She wept, something she hadn’t allowed herself to do in a long time. The tears came for her parents, who she only saw in her dreams. She cried for her brother, who had to go from a lazy teenager to a leader of a tribe overnight. She cried for the people in the subway who suffered needlessly because those in the domes were selfish.
Her tears fell for the Drastans who only wanted to help humans but were attacked. She pictured Logan as a little boy who watched his father betray his mother and him and then walk away from his home world and his responsibilities. A fleeting thought that she would never hold a puppy or kitten brought more tears. It flooded her with more ridiculous silly thoughts that made the tears keep coming. It felt like she had cried a river or two.
“Faith?” Logan called her name from the closet doorway. On seeing her on the floor crying uncontrollably, he rushed to her and knelt to take her in his arms.
“My love, are you hurt?”
“No,” she hiccupped.
“What is wrong?”
“I… I’m fine.”
“You are crying. Clearly you are not fine. I will call for Haggard.”
She laughed. “It’s just a… a cathartic cry.”
“A catch arctic cry?”
Faith laughed again, wiping her tears away. “Cathartic. It means, well, I’m not sure of its official meaning. But sometimes, when a person goes through a lot of emotionally dramatic situations, it catches up to them. Pushes them over their emotional limits, and they need to find a release for it.”
“Like crying?” he asked, wiping a stray tear she missed.
“Like crying.”
“Do you feel better now, after your cathartic cry?”
“Much.”
“Are you hungry? Our food is here.”
Her stomach growled, and she laughed. “I could eat.”
