Chapter 39

Logan

He growled in pleasure at having Faith in his arms. She was so sexy and soft. He couldn’t wait to get her in his bed. All day, he fought to keep his attention on his job and not on his wounded mate. He checked on her several times. Haggard assured him she was recovering well and threatened to bar him from the medical facility because his interruptions were delaying care to others. So, he left with a grumble and threatened to throw the medic on a planet full of poisonous inhabitants if anything happened to Faith.

“What did you do today?” Faith asked.

“I had meetings with Brigadier General James, the human president, and my commanders. They are not pleased with how things have been handled here. It was unacceptable. Dome Leader Winstead has been removed from his position.”

“Really? Well, he should have been removed long ago.”

“Agreed. He abused his power.”

“Did you have evidence against him?”

“I didn’t have to prove anything. Witnesses, including his own assistant, Mary, came forward to testify against him. He demanded a percentage of every sale made or every trade completed. He made inappropriate moves on his assistant and those who came before her. His biggest failure was not bringing the tribes together within the dome and allowing raids to take place without stopping it himself.”

“Will they be assigning a new dome leader?”

“Eventually. They’ve asked me to step into the role alongside a human coming from another dome.”

“So, you’ll be staying here on Earth for a while?”

“Yes, just long enough for me and this other human to clean house and root out all the traitors. My priority will be to create a genuine connection with the local tribes and the dome, providing your people with medical help, food, clothing, and technology that should have been provided when we first contacted Earth leaders. It could take several months, possibly a year. Your brother will be essential in making that happen.”

“What then? Will you return to Drasta?”

He could hear the concern in her voice. “Wewill return to Drasta. I want to show you my home world and all the beauty of the universe. Also, I want to introduce you to my mother. She is all the family I have left, as I am all she has. Now, she will have you as well.”

“Do you think she’ll like me?”

“She is going to love you. Once we are on the command ship, we will do a visual call with her. She has wanted me to find a mate for a very long time. You are a prayer come true for her.”

“I’m looking forward to meeting her and seeing what lies beyond Earth. But I’m also glad that it may be a little while before we leave. I am just rebuilding a relationship with my brother and am not quite ready to leave him yet. He’s been my only family until you.”

He could understand that. As much as he wanted to take her and leave this dying planet, neither of them was in a place to do that yet. But as soon as his commitment was fulfilled, and she was ready, they would be on the next ship out of here.

They arrived at the quarters assigned to them. They entered the primary space. No one was there except the two of them.

“You can put me down now.”

He reluctantly placed her feet on the floor. He enjoyed having her in his arms. “Are you hungry?”

“A little, but I would really like to take a shower first.” She started for her room, but he stopped her.

“You will be with me in my room.”

He loved how she blushed shyly, but she didn’t refuse. She took his hand and allowed him to lead her. His room also had its own shower. Logan couldn’t count the number of times he imagined Faith sharing his room, shower, and bed with him.

“I need spare clothes,” she told him.

“Your clothes are already here.” Logan showed her the drawers in his dresser with her things and his closet which now housed her clothes. He moved them there himself, not wanting any other male touching her things.

She looked surprised but pleased. “Thank you, Logan.”

Moving close to cup her cheek, he smiled down. “It is my pleasure to take care of my mate. Go take your shower. I’ll order food.”

He placed a quick kiss on her lips but moved back before it got carried away. She still needed to rest, and she needed food to help build her strength. Haggard gave him specific instructions before he agreed to release her from the medical facility.
