“Sorry? Sorry for what?”

“What? What’s going on? Your face. They’re here, aren’t they? You were stalling.” Her words come out in rapid fire as her hands flail by her side. “I wish you would just hurry and make your wish!” Her eyes grow wide with concern and her hand claps over her mouth. “No, no, no, no.”

I’m too confused and stunned to speak. She is terrified right now. What did she do or say?

I replay her words in my head over and over, saying them slower each time to dissect what she said, and then it hits me. She asked for a wish.

My heart races. What does this mean? If she wishes for something, then what?

She shoots a red light out of her hand, but I dodge it.

Why is she trying to attack me? Is she trying to kill me now, so that I can’t make the wish? Is me making a wish now, a worse punishment for her than death?

The doors burst open at the same time she casts another ball at me, knocking me on the ground. I turn to look at my guys with Lizzy, Tony, Betty, and Brady. My heart swells.Lizzy rears her hands up, but I shoot a light ball at her. Tony steps in the way and conjures up a shield to block it.

“Ev! What the hell?”

“Stop!”

Samara fires another light ball at me, but I roll out of the way.

“She’s going to kill you!” Lizzy yells.

Callum, I have an idea. Trust me.

Ev.

Callum! Unlock the chains from Brady. Get Lizzy to help.

Another red ball hits beside me, grazing my leg. I let out a scream, eyes still focused on Lizzy.

Tell Lizzy to stop. It could ruin the plan.

Callum mumbles something to Lizzy, and she cuts her eyes so hard at me, I feel like they’re cutting across my skin.

Another red ball comes at me, but Tony’s shield he used on me shoots across the space and blocks me.

With the chains off Brady, I turn to look at Samara. As soon as I open my mouth, she starts rapidly firing off red balls at me. Lizzy creates a shield and moves in front of me, blocking me.

“You better know what in the fuck you’re doing, princess.”

Betty joins her side, screaming some sort of slur of words that make no sense. It almost sounds like a battle cry, but again, superconfused.

“I wish,” I say slowly and clearly.

In a panic, Samara twirls into a smoke and floats through the air, and unleashes a flurry of red balls onto me.

“What the fuck is going on?” Lizzy asks, shielding both of us with her magic.

I don’t answer her because I don’t want it to ruin the wish I’ve already started. It’s exactly what Samara is trying to get me to do. To mess up my wish, but I continue, “That the Mist of Morreux-” Another wave of blasts comes at us.

“Fuck! She’s nearly invisible!” Lizzy shouts.

I continue louder, enunciating every word as best I can given the constant rain of hellfire that’s coming down on us right now. “That is currently inside of Brady,” I point at him, unsure if that helps or hurts the wish, “Be moved into Samara right now.”

The red fire balls stop, the smoke settles to the ground, and she stands up, face fallen.

Everyone is quiet as we all stand and wait.
