Mathlin nodded and nudged Titan to do the same. “They taste like heaven. If you bring her some cupcakes first thing in the morning, she would totally want you in bed all day.”
Salem seemed willing to be convinced. So Mathlin scrambled down and offered to put some cupcakes in a box for him.
Five minutes later, he left the bakery with a box of cupcakes, a loaf of bread, and several descriptions of finger sandwiches.
Titan leaned against the counter and laughed until he cried.
“I c-can’t believe you f-fed him that s-story,” the alpha wheezed. “That sheer f-fucking nerve. And he b-bought it.”
“He even bought the cupcakes and bread,” Mathlin said, amazed. “I thought maybe he wouldn’t, but he did.”
“That settles it. You’ll have to stay on permanently as my staff.” Titan dried his tears on his shoulders, his mouth curved into a grin.
Mathlin’s heart skipped. He wants me to stick around.
“Sooo, I have an idea for your aunt’s party,” he said. “Some of your customers will be there, right? Mrs. Everdin’s friends.”
Titan looked up, his eyes crinkled at the corners. “Yeah? What’s your idea?”
Mathlin held his breath.
“You could propose to me. In front of everyone.”
