Felix

Even though I was dreading my shift because it would pull me away from Elijah, it went by faster than expected because I thought of him the entire time.

I walked with a skip in my step, like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I felt like I was living in a fantasy. Where had Elijah been all my life? He was kind, generous, sexy, and ignited a spark in me that I never felt with Larry, ever.

It was a huge crush. Did it still even count as a crush if we’d already had sex?

After work, I headed back to my apartment. Well, it wasn’t technically mine. I had been crashing on the couch for about a month, since Larry unceremoniously evicted me, but it was the closest thing I had to home right now.

It was a bit of a downgrade going from a huge house in a rich suburb to a cozy two-bedroom apartment in the city, but the change it atmosphere was worth it. My roommates and fellow coworkers were kind enough to get me a spare key and let me stay rent-free until I had enough money to get back up on my feet, so I had no room to complain.

But it did mean that I wasn’t able to invite Elijah back to my place, since I didn’t reallyhaveone, and like I mentioned to him earlier, there was no way I was going to have sex on my friends’ couch.

My heart fluttered at the idea. I’d barely parted ways with Elijah and I was already thinking aboutthat? I was more far gone than I thought.

As soon as I unlocked the door, I heard gasps inside, then two voices shouting at once.

“Where the hell have you been?”

“I swear I’m gonna kill you, Felix!”

The strong words might have made me anxious coming from anyone except my roommates. The two omegas threw themselves on me in a bear hug, making me squeak.

“Sorry, guys,” I said, patting them on the backs.

“Seriously, Felix!” Skylar said with an exasperated sigh. “Neither of us knew where you went last night.”

“And we called you about a million times,” Kaden growled. “Why didn’t you pick up?”

“Oh!” I fished my dead phone out of my pocket. “Sorry, I guess I didn’t even think about charging it where I was.”

Skylar narrowed his eyes. “Where youwere? Mind filling us in?”

“Yeah, it’s good you came home when you did, because Sky was afraid your crazy ex did something bad to you,” Kaden added in a worried tone.

“Larry?” I asked. “No, he wouldn’t do anything like that.”

With his glare and crossed arms, Skylar was obviously unconvinced. “Still. You never know with alphas, especially ones who are willing to throw you out on your ass unannounced.”

I winced. I hadn’t told them everything about Larry, but they knew enough--that he had kicked me out one night without any warning.

“I’m fine, guys, don’t worry,” I told them. “I’m sorry for worrying you, though. Er, do you mind if I change first? I’m tired of wearing my work outfit.”

They seemed hesitant to let me out of their sight again, but let me dress down. Since I didn’t have a bedroom, I changed in the bathroom. I came out wearing shorts and a loose t-shirt before my friends dragged me to the couch, where they fawned over me like two concerned mother hens.

“So youweren’twith your ex?” Skylar demanded.

“No, of course not. I haven’t seen him since the night he kicked me out.”

He sighed in relief. “That’s good.”

“Where did you go, then?” Kaden asked. “You never came home last night, didn’t tell us anything, and you wouldn’t pick up the phone.”

“Were you guys there when those alphas made a big scene?” I asked.

Skylar screwed up his brows in thought. “Yeah, now that you mention it, I remember something like that. I was on the opposite end of the café, but I know Sammy sounded pissed.”
