“Weren’t they upset because someone had a guide dog or something?” Kaden offered.

As they spoke, two blurs appeared from the corner of my eye, one black and one orange. The cats, Demon and Trouble, belonged to Skylar and Kaden respectively, and apparently were the offspring of the last roommate’s cat. I’d grown to like the furballs, and they finally trusted me after a month of living here.

The cats bounded up to greet me, but suddenly hesitated when they got too close, like they smelled something rancid on me. Their fur bristled and they backed away.

“What’s up with them?” Skylar mumbled.

Then the realization hit me. “Oh. It might be because I smell like dog all over.”

“Dog? Did you stay the night at the animal shelter or something?” Kaden asked. “This mystery just keeps getting weirder.”

I laughed. “It’s not a mystery. You basically figured it out already.”

Skylar examined me with narrowed eyes. “Wait a second. You lookreallyhappy, Felix, like you’re glowing. The same kind of glow Jake had after he had sex with his now-mate for the first time.”

My cheeks burned red. “W-what?”

At once, Skylar and Kaden both seemed to realize something.

“Wait,” Skylar began with a gasp. “Did you have sex with the guy who owns the guide dog?”

“That’s right!” Kaden added. “I just remembered Sammy saying the guy gave you a massive tip! I mean, like, a monetary tip, but I guess--”

“Oh my god!” I cried, my face feeling like it burst into flames.

“Are we right?” Skylar exclaimed. “You slept with the blind guy?”

I bristled at the way Skylar described him. “First of all, he has a name. It’s Elijah. And he’s not just some guy, he’s a kind and generous alpha.”

“That you had sex with,” Kaden said.

My face got even brighter, if that was possible at this point. “Yes. I did.”

Both omegas squealed. Their concern disappeared, replaced with joy.

“Oh my god, Felix, you’re so sly,” Skylar said as he nudged me playfully with his elbow. “Do you always sleep with alphas who give you good tips?”

“No! It wasn’t like that.”

“Oh, cut it out, Sky, stop teasing him,” Kaden said, batting Skylar away. “Well, if you like the guy enough to sleep with him, then we’re happy for you, Felix. Do youlikelike him?”

The image of Elijah’s smile flashed into my mind.

“Yeah,” I replied softly. “I really do. I know it sounds kind of stupid, since we only just met, but . . .”

“No, it’s not stupid at all!” Skylar rubbed my shoulders. “Listen, when my old roommate Jake met his mate for the first time, I knew just by the look on his face he was head over heels for the guy, but it took him a long time to admit it. He might have saved them both a lot of heartache if he was just honest in the first place, like you are.”

I blushed at the implication of Skylar calling Elijah mymate, like we were truly a bonded alpha and omega after a single night together.

“You’re so sweet, Felix,” Kaden added. “We want you to be happy. If you like this alpha, then we support you all the way.”

It should have been a tender moment, but a doubt in the back of my mind caused me to frown. Tears formed in my eyes, and wouldn’t go away as much as I willed them to disappear.

Skylar scooted closer to me. “What’s wrong, babe? Why are you crying?”

“Tell us.” Kaden took my hand and squeezed it, which made my tears fall faster.

“Nothing, sorry.” I wiped my eyes on my arm. “It’s just . . . you guys aren’t going to kick me out, are you?”
